The Bauchi State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has intercepted a truck conveying vandalised railway tracks and arrested five suspects in connection with the crime along the Bauchi–Jos road.

The NSCDC said the vandalisation of the railway tracks occurred around Gital town in Tafawa Balewa Local Government Area of Bauchi State.

State Commandant of the corps, Oloyede Nelson, disclosed that operatives acted on credible intelligence to intercept the truck in Miri village along the Bauchi road.

According to him, the vandalised railway materials were concealed in the vehicle and disguised as bags of chicken feed and slippers.

He said five suspects linked to the vandalism have been taken into custody, while efforts are ongoing to arrest the alleged mastermind behind the operation as well as the truck driver, who are currently at large.

Items recovered from the suspects include 80 pieces of vandalised railway tracks, five pairs of slippers, bags of chicken feed, one long vehicle truck, and a Lexus RX 330 with registration number BWR 60 DN.

The commandant reaffirmed the commitment of the NSCDC to protecting critical national assets and infrastructure, warning that individuals involved in vandalism would be brought to justice.
