OMO-AGEGE CAMP ACCUSED OF MASTERMINDING SMEAR CAMPAIGN AGAINST DELTA GOVERNOR OBOREVWORI

Fresh revelations identify Lawson Ogwa, a known political associate of former Deputy Senate President Ovie Omo-Agege, as the mastermind behind a recently circulated report alleging Governor Sheriff Oborevwori is plotting a return to the People’s Democratic Party (PDP). The publication, titled “Delta Drama: Sheriff, Others Plot Return to PDP Amid Secret Talks With Wike”, sparked widespread speculation and political uproar in Delta State.

Insiders now dismiss the report as a fabricated smear campaign orchestrated by political enemies desperate to stir confusion and discredit Governor Oborevwori’s rising profile. A close anonymous source directly accused Senator Omo-Agege’s camp of sponsoring the narrative to undermine the governor and destabilize the state’s political equilibrium.

The source described the report as “purely the handiwork of Lawson Ogwa on the orders of those from the camp of the former Deputy Senate President,” labelling it a calculated effort involving media propaganda to create confusion and stir disaffection within Delta’s political system. The source further claimed Ogwa was rebuked by top APC members who warned him against fabricating such narratives and “carry talk”.

“It is unfortunate that instead of encouraging Omo-Agege to position himself as a loyal progressive figure, his camp continues to indulge in lies, blackmail, and media manipulation,” the source stated. “This is nothing but a desperate attempt to malign Governor Oborevwori and slow down the momentum of good governance in Delta State.”

Governor Oborevwori, who won the 2023 election under the PDP amidst a heated legal battle with Omo-Agege, defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC) in April 2025. His move to the APC was celebrated by the party’s national leaders and key stakeholders within and outside Delta State.
