The Osun State Secretariat in Osogbo was shut down on Monday as thousands of civil servants poured into the streets to celebrate Governor Ademola Adeleke’s re-election victory at the keenly contested poll.

Workers, overwhelmed with joy, flooded the Abere area wearing yellow Imole caps, singing, and dancing as music and drummers filled the air. The massive crowd grew throughout the day despite a light drizzle, bringing the busy GRA area to a standstill while awaiting the Governor’s return from collecting his certificate of office.

Many workers confessed they had feared openly campaigning for Adeleke before the election due to threats of victimization from the opposition APC, who they said made clear that supporters would be punished. The outcome, they described, was a relief and a silent victory for their votes.

Labour leaders addressed the crowd with chants including “Owo wo’gbo, 50 thousand” and “Emi nikan l’ooye,” celebrating their support for the Governor.

NUJ Chairman, Comrade Dr. Adeyemi Aboderin, congratulated the workers and urged them to remain steadfast, assuring that the opposition’s court threats would not overturn the people’s will.

NULGE Chairman, Comrade Kehinde Ogunbangbe, said, “This victory is not his victory alone. It is the victory for the Labour movement in Osun State. If this election was to go the other way, civil servants know they are in terrible soup. I give God the glory that all the plans of the opposition to rig the election proved abortive.”

He also addressed local government issues, saying, “APC created this problem. What they are fighting for is not their right. They ruled us for 12 years and stagnated civil servants. We can never forget.”

NLC Chairman, Comrade Christopher Arapasopo, said, “The history has repeated itself. Adeleke is doing excellently well on workers’ welfare. Workers and pensioners trooped out to vote him because our good time deserves another.”

He praised President Tinubu for ensuring peace and declared, “The organized labor in Osun State declares our support for Asiwaju for second term.” On local government, he urged the federal government to honor court rulings releasing allocations, adding, “We stand on the judgment that the APC chairmen have ceased to be in office.”

Responding to APC allegations of partisanship, Arapasopo said, “That is capital no. I don’t have any party card. But you can’t expect me to watch my people suffer while a government is doing good. We appreciate Adeleke and expect living wage, not minimum wage.”
