Robber’s Gun Breaks as 48-Year-Old Man Battles Masked Invader in Delta …Police recover firearm

A 48-year-old resident of Effurun, Delta State, has survived an early-morning robbery attack after he reportedly wrestled with an armed intruder, causing the suspect’s locally made shotgun to break during the struggle.

The incident happened around 5:30am on September 4, 2026, at the Charlisco area of NPA Express Road, Effurun.

The Delta State Police Command said two masked men broke into the victim’s residence, with one of them armed with a locally made shotgun.

Rather than surrender, the victim reportedly confronted the armed suspect and engaged him in a physical struggle. The firearm broke in the process, forcing the suspects to abandon it and flee.

The police said the second suspect subsequently struck the victim on the forehead before both men escaped.

The incident was reported at the Ekpan Police Division at about 6:14am, following which the Divisional Police Officer deployed police operatives to the scene.

The officers recovered the damaged firearm, while the injured victim was taken to a hospital for treatment.

The command said efforts were ongoing to identify and apprehend the fleeing suspects.

Meanwhile, police operatives have arrested a 40-year-old woman, Joy Anthony, over alleged drug peddling in Agbor.

Anthony was arrested around 5am on September 6 by operatives of the Special Anti-Kidnapping Unit, Ubulu-Uku, following what the command described as credible intelligence.

The police said a search conducted at her residence in Agbor-Obi, pursuant to a warrant, resulted in the recovery of quantities of substances suspected to be Swinol, Tramadol, Codeine, Canadian Loud and weeds suspected to be Indian hemp.

The suspect and the recovered exhibits are currently in police custody as investigators continue with the case.

The Delta State Commissioner of Police, CP Samuel E. Erale, commended the Effurun victim for his courage and assured him that the fleeing suspects would be tracked down and arrested.

The command further urged members of the public to provide credible information that could aid its crime-fighting efforts.
