SECURITY FORCES SEIZE MASSIVE CACHE OF AMMUNITION IN ANAMBRA STATE

A major operation by security forces has resulted in the interception of a large shipment of ammunition in Anambra State. The cache, containing over 164,000 live cartridges, was seized by troops of Sector 5 of Operation UDO KA, working in collaboration with operatives of the 63 Brigade and the Department of State Services (DSS).

The interception occurred on May 29, 2025, along the Asaba-Onitsha expressway, after security operatives received credible intelligence reports. The truck carrying the ammunition was apprehended, and the suspected gunrunner, Emeka Omenife, was arrested.

During interrogation, Omenife reportedly revealed that he was part of an international ammunition trafficking syndicate that smuggled weapons from Ghana to Nigeria. Based on this information, security forces launched a follow-up operation and arrested another suspect, Uchenna Obiora, who was awaiting the delivery of the ammunition.
The security agencies have pledged to continue their efforts to disrupt arms trafficking networks and ensure national security. The successful operation highlights the commitment of the security forces to protecting the country from the threats posed by illicit arms trafficking.
