US MILITARY CONFIRMS DEPLOYMENT OF TROOPS TO NIGERIA

The United States Africa Command (AFRICOM) has confirmed the deployment of a small team of American troops to Nigeria.
This is the first official acknowledgement of a U.S. military presence in the country since airstrikes carried out on Christmas Day, reportedly authorised by President Donald Trump.
At the time, Trump warned that further military action could follow.
There had also been reports of U.S. surveillance flights over Nigerian airspace in recent months.
Speaking to reporters, AFRICOM Commander, General Dagvin R.M. Anderson, said the deployment followed a mutual agreement between Nigeria and the United States.
According to him, the agreement has resulted in expanded cooperation between both countries, including the dispatch of a small U.S. team equipped with “unique capabilities.”
However, General Anderson declined to provide specific details about the nature or scope of the mission.
