Former Finance Minister Kemi Adeosun Loses Husband at 62

Former Nigerian Minister of Finance, Kemi Adeosun, is mourning the death of her husband, Anthony Adeniyi “Niyi” Adeosun, who passed away at the age of 62.

The Adeosun family announced his death in a statement signed by Reverend C. A. Adeosun, saying Anthony died in Lagos on Wednesday, August 5, 2026.

The family described the deceased as a respected businessman and committed Christian whose life was marked by hard work, integrity, service to God and dedication to his family and community.

“He lived a life defined by hard work, service to God and an unwavering commitment to his family and community,” the family said.

Anthony Adeosun is survived by his wife, Kemi Adeosun, their children and other members of his extended family, including his brother, Adewale Adeosun, founder of Kuramo Capital.

The family has not disclosed the cause of his death.

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has since extended his condolences to Kemi Adeosun and the Adeosun family, describing the death as a painful loss.

Kemi Adeosun served as Nigeria’s Minister of Finance from 2015 until her resignation in September 2018. She has since remained active in public and development-related initiatives.

The death of her husband has prompted condolences from political associates, friends and members of the wider Nigerian community.
