Security Operative Foils Vandalism Attempt, Arrests Suspect at TCN 330kV Switchyard
The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN), Benin Sub-Region, has arrested a 24-year-old man for allegedly attempting to vandalise electrical infrastructure at its 330kV switchyard.
The suspect, identified as Wisdom Amaunam, a resident of Erediauwa Community, was apprehended at about 10am on Thursday, October 22, 2026, while allegedly removing cables and wires from a marshalling kiosk within the transmission facility.
TCN disclosed that the suspect was intercepted by a security officer on routine patrol who caught him tampering with the installation and promptly arrested him.
He was subsequently handed over to the Critical National Assets and Infrastructure (CNAI) Unit of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) for investigation.
The company said the suspect remained in custody pending the conclusion of investigations and possible arraignment.
TCN praised its security personnel and the NSCDC for their prompt response and continued efforts to protect critical national infrastructure.
It reaffirmed its zero-tolerance stance against vandalism, trespassing and sabotage, warning that attacks on transmission facilities pose a threat to the stability and reliability of electricity supply.
The company also urged host communities and members of the public to remain alert and report suspicious activities around transmission installations to security agencies or the nearest TCN office.
