The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has taken disciplinary action against 66 officers over misconduct and other offences, while confirming the approval of promotions for about 17,000 senior personnel.

The Commandant-General, Prof. Abubakar Ahmed Audi, announced the developments during a press briefing at the Corps’ National Headquarters in Abuja, describing discipline, accountability and professionalism as critical to strengthening the organisation.

Audi said the sanctions followed decisions communicated by the Civil Defence, Corrections, Fire and Immigration Services Board (CDCFIB) after its meeting.

The affected personnel were subjected to different disciplinary measures, including dismissal, demotion, suspension and formal warnings, depending on the nature and seriousness of their offences.

He explained that the cases were investigated and considered through established internal disciplinary mechanisms, including the Orderly Room and the Senior and Junior Officers’ Disciplinary Committees.

The committees examined the allegations and recommended appropriate penalties, which were subsequently ratified by the CDCFIB.

In a statement signed by the NSCDC National Public Relations Officer, Babawale Afolabi, the Commandant-General maintained that the disciplinary exercise demonstrated the Corps’ resolve to enforce professional standards and ensure that personnel remained accountable for their conduct.

On personnel welfare and career progression, Audi also confirmed that the Corps had received the list of approximately 17,000 senior officers whose promotions had been approved.

The promotion exercise, earlier announced by the Ministry of Interior and the CDCFIB, is expected to benefit a significant number of personnel across the organisation.

He assured eligible officers that the approved promotion list would be made public and communicated to beneficiaries in due course.

Audi said the Corps would continue to strengthen institutional discipline, reward professional commitment and improve the welfare and operational effectiveness of its personnel.

He reiterated that the NSCDC remained committed to discharging its statutory responsibilities, particularly the protection of lives and property, critical national assets and infrastructure.

The latest disciplinary and promotion decisions come as the Corps seeks to reinforce internal accountability while motivating its workforce to deliver more effective security services across the country.
