DELTA GOVERNOR’S WIFE DEBUNKS QUINTUPLETS NEGLECT CLAIMS

The wife of Delta State Governor, Deaconess Tobore Oborevwori, has denied claims that the state government neglected the family of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph, who recently gave birth to quintuplets in Ugbori, Warri South Local Government Area. In a statement released by her media office, Deaconess Oborevwori described a trending video circulating on social media making such claims as “misleading”. She emphasized that both her office and the Delta State Government had already provided significant support to the family. According to Deaconess Oborevwori, she personally visited the Joseph family at their residence shortly after the birth of the quintuplets, accompanied by the Chairman of Warri South Local Government Council, Hon. Weyinmi Agbateyinro, and his wife, Roli Agbateyinro. During the visit, Deaconess Oborevwori presented the family with cash gifts and essential materials. She also handed over the keys to a fully stocked shop, based on Mrs. Joseph’s request regarding the type of business she wished to operate. Additionally, she paid five years’ rent for a three-bedroom flat in a decent and comfortable environment for the family. While acknowledging that calls for further assistance to the family cannot be entirely ruled out, Deaconess Oborevwori stressed that such appeals should not be made in a manner that undermines or disregards the genuine and substantial support already provided by the state government. Deaconess Oborevwori urged members of the public to verify information before sharing and assured that her office remains committed to supporting vulnerable families and newborns across Delta State.

DELTA STATE GOVERNMENT APPROVES MULTI-BILLION NAIRA ROAD CONSTRUCTION AND EDUCATION PROJECTS

The Delta State Executive Council (EXCO) has approved a series of multi-billion naira road construction and rehabilitation projects aimed at improving infrastructure and boosting economic development across the state. The council also gave the green light for the release of N6.7 billion as the state’s counterpart funding to access the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC) grant for educational development. The approvals were announced at the end of the State Exco meeting presided over by Governor Sheriff Oborevwori in Asaba. According to the Commissioner for Works (Rural Roads) and Public Information, Mr. Charles Aniagwu, the road projects cut across the three senatorial districts and include both new constructions and major rehabilitations, with a focus on economic viability, accessibility, and long-term durability. “There were a lot of considerations at today’s Exco meeting, ranging from road construction to improvements in our education sector,” Aniagwu said. He listed approved projects, including the reconstruction of failed sections of the Uzere–Asaba-Ase Road, Aboh–Akarai concrete road with a 100m bridge across the Okiri River in Ndokwa East, and Eku–Osubi Road, Okpanam–Ugbolu Road. Aniagwu emphasized that the dual focus on roads and education aligned with Governor Oborevwori’s M.O.R.E. Agenda, which prioritizes infrastructural renewal and human capital development. “The N6.7 billion Universal Basic Education counterpart funding would enable the state to draw matching grants for the construction, renovation, and equipping of public schools,” he said. The Commissioner added that Exco also approved the supply and installation of workshop tools and equipment at Omadino Technical College and Model Technical College, Ogharaefe, and the construction of an administrative block, hostels, dining and kitchen, mechanical and welding workshops at the new Model Technical College, Akugbene. Additionally, the Exco approved the extension of electricity supply and installation of six transformers at Orugbo, Ode-Itsekiri, Ajigba, Inorin, Usele, and Ugbodede communities, all in Warri South Local Government Area. Aniagwu said Governor Oborevwori had directed the Ministries of Primary and Secondary Education to carry out investigations into the buildings and furniture needed to improve the primary and secondary education sectors in the state.

POLICE NEUTRALIZE THREE SUSPECTED KIDNAPPERS IN DELTA STATE

The Delta State Police Command has confirmed the neutralization of three suspected kidnappers in a gun duel with operatives of the Commissioner of Police Special Assignment Team (CP-SAT) along the Ughelli-Patani Road. The incident occurred when the police flagged down a shuttle bus carrying the suspects at Ewhereni Junction, prompting the occupants to open fire in an attempt to escape. A gunfire duel ensued, resulting in three suspects being seriously injured. Despite being rushed to the hospital for treatment, they later died. The police recovered one AK-47 rifle loaded with 18 live rounds from the suspects. According to the Delta Police Command spokesman, SP Bright Edafe, the operatives were on a covert patrol when they stopped the bus, and the suspects engaged them in a gunfight. Edafe praised the CP-SAT team for their professionalism and dedication to duty, stating that their efforts demonstrate the command’s commitment to dismantling criminal networks and enhancing safety and security in Delta State. The Delta State Commissioner of Police, CP Olufemi Abaniwonda, commended the operatives for their exemplary work and assured the public of continued vigilance, urging citizens to report suspicious activities through police control numbers. The police investigation is ongoing.

SENATE PASSES BILL TO ESTABLISH FEDERAL MEDICAL CENTRE IN OLEH, DELTA STATE

The Nigerian Senate has passed the Federal Medical Centre Act (Amendment) Bill, 2023, which seeks to establish a Federal Medical Centre (FMC) in Oleh, Delta State. The bill, sponsored by Senator Joel-Onowakpo Thomas representing Delta South Senatorial District, marks a major legislative milestone for the oil-rich region. The passage of the bill is expected to improve access to quality healthcare in the region, which has long grappled with inadequate healthcare infrastructure. Senator Joel-Onowakpo described the passage of the bill as a “major turnaround” for the region, saying it will help reduce the burden of long-distance travel for specialist medical care. ” Oleh, as the senatorial headquarters, is strategically located to serve the surrounding communities. The new FMC will help reduce the burden of long-distance travel for specialist medical care, which often leads to delayed treatments and preventable deaths,” he said. The new facility is expected to stimulate economic development, generate direct and indirect jobs, attract healthcare professionals, promote research and training, and improve overall public health outcomes. Senator Joel-Onowakpo expressed gratitude to the Senate leadership for their support in advancing the bill, saying it reflects the collective will to bring meaningful development to Delta South and ensure the people’s needs are addressed at the national level. “This is a critical step toward equity in federal healthcare infrastructure. It reflects our collective will to bring meaningful development to Delta South and ensure our people’s needs are addressed at the national level,” he added. The bill will now proceed to the House of Representatives for concurrence before being transmitted to the President for assent. Senator Joel-Onowakpo reaffirmed his commitment to seeing the bill through to implementation, promising continued advocacy to ensure the timely establishment and operation of the medical centre.

DELTA GOVERNMENT DISMISSES CLAIMS OF N400 BILLION DEBT, SAYS IT’S FALSE

The Delta State Government has dismissed claims that it owes over N400 billion, describing the allegation as false and completely detached from reality. The State Commissioner for Works (Rural Roads) and Public Information, Mr. Charles Aniagwu, made this known in an interview on Channels TV’s Politics Today. According to Aniagwu, Governor Oborevwori has not borrowed a single dime since assuming office and has instead repaid over N280 billion in loans and contractual obligations inherited from the previous administration. “No one is owing N400 billion. Since Governor Oborevwori assumed office, he has not borrowed a single dime. In fact, he has repaid over N280 billion in loans and contractual obligations, many of which were inherited from the previous administration and tied to bridging finance,” Aniagwu said. The commissioner also responded to comments made by Delta APC stalwart Collins Eselemo, who had questioned the government’s development initiatives in oil-producing communities. Aniagwu emphasized that Delta State’s emergence as the country’s highest oil-producing state is due to investments in peace and development in these communities. “One of the key reasons we have not experienced significant pipeline vandalism in Delta is because we extended development to the creeks, where most of the oil is extracted,” Aniagwu said. “Eselemo questions the economic importance of developing the creeks, but that is precisely why Delta is a leading oil-producing state because our brothers and sisters in the creeks have been empowered and included.” On infrastructure development, Aniagwu mentioned that the government has completed road projects in Burutu Town, with the Ayakoromo Bridge under construction and work ongoing on the Ogulaha-Okonti-Odimodi Road. He also stated that the 47-kilometer Ohoror-Bomadi road is being built. Regarding claims that Julius Berger bridges in Effurun and Warri are within a 400-meter stretch, Aniagwu dismissed the allegation as false and misleading. “He claimed that the bridges being constructed in Effurun and Warri are only 400 meters apart. That’s not true. One of the bridges alone exceeds 400 meters in length and we are building three,” he said. Aniagwu expressed confusion about Eselemo’s stance, saying, “I really don’t understand where Eselemo stands. He is moving from one argument to another without any consistency or clarity.” He added that the government’s move to the APC is aimed at broadening the spectrum of development in Delta State. “You heard the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo. He acknowledged that everyone has come together. The APC leaders we met have all welcomed the move,” Aniagwu said, urging Eselemo to reflect on his position.

OMO AGEGE PLANS SHOCKING RETURN TO PDP

Former Deputy President of the Senate, Ovie Omo Agege, is reportedly planning a shocking return to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) after losing relevance in the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Delta State. According to credible sources, Omo-Agege is exploring the possibility of a political realignment amid rising tensions within the APC and ongoing internal power tussles in Delta State. The development comes after President Bola Ahmed Tinubu handed the leadership of APC in Delta State to Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, following his emergence as governor. Omo Agege, who was previously the leader of APC in the state, has taken a back seat and is reportedly losing relevance in the political equation. “This is not a rumour,” a highly placed PDP source said, confirming that Omo-Agege is actively considering a return to the PDP to find a political home. The move is expected to reshape Delta State’s political landscape ahead of the 2027 general elections. Omo Agege’s potential defection would be a significant blow to the APC in the South-South region, where he has been a key figure. The PDP is likely to welcome him back with open arms, and his return could potentially boost the party’s chances in the 2027 elections.

OKOWA DENIES EFCC ARREST, SAYS HE’S NOT AFRAID OF INVESTIGATION

Former Vice Presidential candidate of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Senator Ifeanyi Okowa, has denied being arrested by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC). Okowa, a former Governor of Delta State and the PDP co-flag bearer in the 2023 general elections, said he had done no wrong and therefore had no reason to be afraid of the EFCC and its probe. In an interview on Arise Television, Okowa said, “There is no sin to be forgiven because no sin was committed.” He denied ever being arrested by the commission, saying while it was the right of the commission to probe him, he had committed no crime to warrant him being afraid. Okowa also dismissed claims that his defection to the All Progressives Congress (APC) was the outcome of dialogue with Senator Adams Oshiomhole, saying he had not discussed or met Oshiomhole on defection until they met at the defection ground. The senator said he had served Deltans well, and although his development strides were worthy and well acknowledged, he could not accomplish all that he could because being in the political opposition had affected his access to the goodwill of the resource-laden Federal Government. Okowa stated that he promptly reported to the EFCC once he returned to Nigeria after receiving their invitation while he was abroad.

DELTA STATE GOVERNMENT STARTS PAYMENT OF COMPENSATION TO VICTIMS OF AGBOR DIESEL TANKER EXPLOSION

The Delta State Government has started paying financial compensation to victims of the January 5, 2025 diesel tanker explosion in Agbor, Ika South Local Government Area of the state. The inferno destroyed property worth millions of naira and claimed several lives. The State Commissioner, Bureau for Special Duties, Hon. Ejiro Etacherure, said the humane gesture was in line with Governor Sheriff Oborevwori’s commitment to the welfare of all Deltans, as encapsulated in the MORE Agenda. He expressed appreciation to the Governor for providing the necessary platform to enable the State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) to respond effectively to various disasters across the state. Etacherure called on the victims to make judicious use of the financial assistance, noting that the funds might not cover all their losses. “Let me make it clear that the amount allocated to each victim is not a compensation for the losses suffered, but a way of identifying with the victims and cushioning the effect of the disaster on them. We hope it will go a long way in easing the burden caused by the incident,” he said. On behalf of the victims, Mr. Sunday Omoruyi thanked the state government for its prompt response, saying they had not expected any form of compensation so soon. The cheques were presented to the victims by the Commissioner and the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Prince Gregory Ejohwomu.

DELTA STATE GOVERNMENT SHAKES AS SSA ON CIVIL SOCIETIES AND NGOS RESIGNS

The Delta State government has been rocked by the resignation of its Senior Special Assistant on Civil Societies and NGOs, Comrade Victor Ojei, popularly known as Wong Box. In a statement, Comrade Victor Ojei cited the government’s inability to implement meaningful projects and policies that benefit the people of Delta State as the reason for his resignation. Comrade Victor Ojei said, “When I accepted the appointment, it was with burning hope – a hope to bridge the gap between government and the grassroots, to be a voice for the voiceless, to inspire change not just from the corridors of power but from the trenches where our people cry daily for justice, development, and a better life.” Wong Box expressed frustration that his efforts to attract international developmental partners, NGOs, and innovation were stalled and dumped into “KIVIV” (Keep In View). Wong Box further stated, “Every single effort to attract international developmental partners, NGOs, and innovation was stalled and dumped into KIVIV. What should have been a movement for progress became a standstill. Projects that could have sparked industrial revolutions, brought jobs to the unemployed, and put food in the mouths of widows and orphans were met with silence.” Comrade Victor Ojei lamented that the state has not implemented policies that guarantee the safety of its citizens, adding that “from 1999 to date, not one tangible thing comes into the pocket of the average Deltan monthly.” In his parting words, Comrade Victor Ojei declared, “I want to state it clear: I will not cross carpet from PDP to APC. I am not a politician; I am a Socio-political activist. I stand with truth and with the people, not with the highest bidder.” Wong Box vowed to continue speaking out for the people of Delta State, saying, “I will continue to speak, to act, and to defend the people whether in office or outside it.” Comrade Victor Ojei concluded, “I may have resigned the position, but I have not resigned my passion. I have not resigned from Delta State. I have not resigned from the hearts of the people.”

DELTA STATE POLICE INVESTIGATE MURDER OF SITE ENGINEER BY EMPLOYEES

The Delta State Police Command has launched an investigation into the murder of Chigozie Udalor, a site engineer who was killed by his employees after discovering he had a substantial amount of money in his bank account. According to the spokesperson of the command, SP Bright Edafe, the police received a report on December 12, 2024, from Hyacinth Nnalue, stating that his cousin, Chigozie Udalor, had been missing since December 10, 2024. Udalor was the site manager at Nnalue’s fish pond in Bod camp Akwukwu Igbo community. Upon receiving the report, the DPO commenced an investigation and later transferred the case to the State Criminal Investigation Department. The state Commissioner of Police, CP Olufemi Abaniwonda, directed the DPO Ekpan CSP Aliyu Shaba to carry out a technically driven investigation. The investigation led to the arrest of two suspects, David Tacho and Daniel Orshio, on March 31, 2025. According to Edafe, “Investigation revealed that David Tacho is a brother to one Victor Tacho who conspired with Pius Daniel, (both presently at large) and Daniel Orshio, and murdered the victim.” The preliminary investigation showed that all four suspects were employed by the deceased, but they discovered he had some money in his Moniepoint account and conspired to kill him. They used a hammer to hit him on the head, tied him, and buried him in a shallow grave at the site. Edafe stated that the two suspects, David Tacho and Daniel Orshio, are currently in custody, while efforts are ongoing to arrest the other two suspects, Pius Daniel and Victor Tacho. The body of the deceased has been exhumed and is awaiting autopsy.
