MIYETTI ALLAH LEADER SHOT DEAD IN KWARA STATE

Gunmen have killed Alhaji Idris Abubakar Sakaina, the leader of Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria in Kwara State. The incident occurred around 10:00 pm on Saturday when his attackers accosted and shot him dead in front of his residence in Oke Ose, Ilorin. According to a source, “His attackers left him in the pool of his blood. They didn’t collect anything from him and their motive for such action is surprising.” A witness, Aina’u Sarki, said, “I was with him 20 minutes before he was killed. Someone called me on phone and told me that he was shot dead.” The Special Assistant to Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq on Inter-Community Relations, Fulani, Muhammed Abdullahi, confirmed the development on Sunday morning. “Yes, he was killed in front of his residence on Saturday night by some gunmen who left him for dead. We are preparing for his janaza as I speak to you now but the police were here yesterday and have started an investigation.” The deceased, 32, was a former Special Assistant to Moro Local Government Chairman and a Youth Leader of the Fulanis in Kwara.

AT LEAST 60 PEOPLE KILLED IN DEADLY AUTO CRASH ON ILORIN-JEBBA EXPRESSWAY

A devastating auto crash occurred on Friday at Oko-Olowo, on Ilorin-Jebba expressway, Ilorin, Kwara State, claiming the lives of at least 60 people. The victims were traveling from the northern part of the country when the accident occurred. According to eyewitnesses, the crash happened when a trailer carrying fertilizer and a petrol-laden truck collided while overtaking, resulting in a massive inferno. “The trailer loaded with fertilizer tried to overtake petrol-laden truck and the two vehicles collided on the sides, thus, resulting in inferno,” said Sheu Arobadi, a witness. Arobadi described the chaotic scene, saying, “Many of the people suffered broken legs and arms as they were jumping down from the vehicles. A father had to throw one of his children out of the burning vehicles before he could also jump down.” Those who sustained injuries and fractures were rushed to nearby hospitals for medical attention. The accident caused a serious traffic jam on the busy road, lasting for hours. The state fire service staff members eventually evacuated the corpses around 10:30 am. Witnesses said that the victims were burnt beyond recognition, with burnt skulls and human parts littering the scene of the accident. Residents of the area are calling on the government to find a lasting solution to the frequent occurrence of crashes on the road. They suggest constructing an overhead bridge to check the development. Arobadi noted that road accidents occur at least once a week on the expressway, resulting in heavy losses of life and property.

FIRST LADY OLUREMI TINUBU LEADS RENEWED CAMPAIGN AGAINST HIV/AIDS, SYPHILIS, AND HEPATITIS

SSA Media to the First Lady of Nigeria, Busola Kukoyi, in a statement, announced that First Lady Oluremi Tinubu has kicked off the Free-To-Shine campaign in Nigeria, aimed at eliminating HIV/AIDS, Syphilis, and Hepatitis. The campaign, an initiative of the African Union, Organisation of African First Ladies for Development (OAFLAD), and global partners, seeks to address the growing complacency in responding to the spread of these diseases in Africa. Kukoyi stated that the First Lady decried the increasing rate of new HIV infections in Nigeria, attributing it to high mother-to-child transmission rates. Oluremi Tinubu emphasized the need to intensify efforts to achieve the global Triple Elimination target of HIV/AIDS, Syphilis, and Hepatitis by 2030. “The Free to Shine Campaign aims to significantly reduce the number of new HIV infections among women of reproductive age, prevent mother-to-child transmission of HIV, and guarantee that every child born with HIV receives necessary treatment and support to thrive,” Oluremi Tinubu said. The First Lady expressed concern over the growing complacency in responding to the spread of these diseases in Africa, particularly in Nigeria, which has the highest burden of HIV/AIDS in Sub-Saharan Africa. She called for collective action against these diseases, aligning with the shared vision of a healthier Nigeria. Governor of Kwara State, Mallam Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq, thanked the First Lady for leading the campaign, noting that Nigeria can achieve the goal of Triple Elimination by 2030, citing the country’s success in combating Polio and Tuberculosis. The Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare, Prof. Mohammed Alli Pate, assured that the Ministry will ensure Nigeria exits the list of countries with high statistics of HIV/AIDS and other diseases. WHO Country Representative, Dr Walter Mulombo, reiterated the organization’s commitment to working with OAFLAD, the First Lady, and Nigeria to improve maternal and child healthcare outcomes.
