NSCDC VOWS TO APPREHEND KILLERS OF 8 OPERATIVES IN EDO AMBUSH, DEPLOY TACTICAL SQUAD

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has vowed to apprehend the perpetrators behind the killing of eight of its operatives in an ambush in Edo State. The incident occurred on Friday, September 5, 2025, while the personnel were providing security for critical infrastructure at the BUA Cement Company in Okpella, Etsako East Local Government Area. According to eyewitnesses, the operatives engaged the attackers in a fierce three-hour gun battle, successfully rescuing four expatriates working at the company’s quarry section. Tragically, eight officers lost their lives in the exchange, and one Chinese expatriate was kidnapped. NSCDC Commandant General, Professor Ahmed Abubakar Audi, has ordered the immediate deployment of Special Tactical Squads to rescue the kidnapped expatriate and apprehend the perpetrators. “The Corps will not be intimidated or deterred by the actions of subversive elements behind this heinous attack. Instead, we will remain focused, re-strategize, and carry out our statutory mandate with renewed determination,” he stated. A joint operation involving other security agencies, including the NSCDC Counter Terrorism Unit (CTU), Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT), Special Protection Units, and the Commandant General’s Special Intelligence Squad, has been launched to comb the forests and secure the release of the kidnapped expatriate. The NSCDC has also strengthened security around the BUA facility to ensure maximum protection of both expatriates and indigenous workers. “The labour, commitment, and patriotism displayed by our operatives will forever be remembered,” Prof. Audi said, commending the courage and sacrifice of the fallen officers. He assured that the NSCDC will continue to adopt community engagement and other non-kinetic approaches in addressing security challenges and preventing crises in the area.

EDO NSCDC COMMANDANT SPEAKS ON KILLING OF 8 OPERATIVES BY BANDITS

The Edo State Commandant of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Gbenga Agun, has spoken about the tragic killing of eight NSCDC operatives at Okpella, Edo State, last Friday night. In an exclusive interview, Commandant Agun described the incident as a “huge tragedy and a great loss, not only for the NSCDC but for the entire country, especially the security community.” According to Agun, the operatives were on escort duty for Chinese nationals working at the BUA Cement Factory quarry when they were ambushed by criminals in a forest environment with difficult terrain. “There was little our men could do because it was already dark,” Agun said. The commandant revealed that one Chinese national was abducted, while four other personnel and one civilian sustained varying degrees of injury. Four officers survived the attack, and those who were taken to the hospital are responding to treatment. Agun stated that the NSCDC has launched an investigation and is working in strong synergy with other sister security agencies to get to the roots of the crime and bring all the perpetrators to justice. “We have already launched an investigation, and I must stress that we are beginning to get useful leads,” he said. When asked if any group had claimed responsibility for the killings, Agun said no group had claimed responsibility, but findings suggest that the area has long been notorious as a criminal hideout. He also mentioned rivalry among landowners in the area over royalty payments as a possible factor behind the attack. The commandant did not agree that the incident was due to outright intelligence failure, saying he did not receive any intelligence report prior to the sad event. However, he assured that the NSCDC is working to prevent future occurrences and to solidify security within and around the BUA premises.

NSCDC, POLICE PERSONNEL CLASH IN ONDO, TWO OFFICERS MISSING

A violent confrontation between operatives of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) and personnel of the Police Mobile Force (PMF) in Ore, Ondo State, has resulted in an injury and the disappearance of two police officers. The incident occurred at about 4:30 p.m. on February 12, 2025, at the premises of Ade-Olap Global Resources Ltd, an officially approved security post along the Ore–Sagamu Expressway. According to intelligence sources, a convoy of NSCDC personnel, comprising a gun truck and three Hilux vehicles, arrived at the location without prior notification. Upon disembarking, the NSCDC operatives allegedly attempted to disarm the PMF personnel lawfully stationed at the post. A scuffle ensued, leading to an accidental discharge that injured an NSCDC officer in the leg. The situation escalated into chaos, during which the whereabouts of two PMF officers on duty at the company became unknown. It was later confirmed that the NSCDC team was on a national assignment in collaboration with officials of the Ministry of Mines from Abuja. Efforts are underway to secure the release of the missing police officers, while the injured NSCDC operative is receiving medical attention. Both authorities have commenced consultations to resolve the matter and prevent further escalation.
