NIGERIA POLICE FORCE SECURES EXTRADITION OF “KILLABOI” FOR MURDER OF 21-YEAR-OLD STUDENT

The Nigeria Police Force has successfully completed the extradition of Benjamin Best Nnayereugo, alias “Killaboi,” from Doha, Qatar to Nigeria. In a statement, Force Public Relations Officer ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi said the suspect had been on the run for the murder of Miss Augusta Oseodion Onuwabhagbe, a 21-year-old first-class student of Lead City University, Ibadan. Adejobi said investigations revealed that the suspect murdered the victim at his residence in Lagos on July 13, 2023, and later released an online video purporting to confess to the act in a bid to derail investigative efforts. Following his declaration as wanted by the NPF Lagos State Criminal Investigation Department, an INTERPOL Red Notice was issued for his global apprehension. The suspect was initially arrested in Freetown, Sierra Leone, but escaped custody during a prison break. He was later tracked to Doha, Qatar, where he was arrested by Qatari authorities in February 2025. Adejobi said the extradition was made possible through robust international cooperation and advanced biometrics. Inspector-General of Police IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun commended the diligence of INTERPOL NCB Abuja and extended appreciation to the Honorable Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, the Government of Qatar, INTERPOL NCB Doha, and the Nigerian Embassy in Qatar for their collaboration in securing the fugitive’s return. Adejobi quoted Egbetokun as saying, “The Nigeria Police Force is committed to ensuring that the suspect faces diligent prosecution, as part of the NPF’s dedication to justice and the safety of all Nigerians.”

NIGERIAN NAVY HANDS OVER 3-MAN KIDNAPPING GANG, VICTIM TO POLICE AFTER SUCCESSFUL RESCUE OPERATION

The Nigerian Navy has handed over a three-man kidnapping gang to the Police, following their arrest in connection with the abduction of a naval officer and other victims in Abuja. Commodore Oluseyi Oladipo, Commander of the Naval Unit in Abuja, said the officer was kidnapped on Friday, March 21, 2025, around Mpape, Abuja. The successful operation was carried out by a joint Quick Response Squad from the Naval Base, in collaboration with troops from the Guards Brigade of the Nigerian Army and personnel from the Nigeria Police Force. According to Oladipo, the victims were tracked to a forest hideout in Nasarawa State where they were rescued in the early hours of Sunday, March 23. “The Base will continue to collaborate with other security agencies to ensure that Abuja remains safe and secure,” Oladipo said. He reaffirmed the Naval Unit’s commitment to the vision of the Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Emmanuel Ikechukwu Ogalla, to maintain a motivated naval force capable of ensuring security across Nigeria’s maritime and land-based environments. Oladipo expressed appreciation to the Minister of the FCT, Barrister Nyesom Wike, for his leadership in enhancing security within the capital. The suspects, along with relevant exhibits, were formally handed over to the FCT Police Command for further investigation and prosecution. The suspects have confessed to kidnapping, cattle rustling, and other criminal activities.

NIGERIA POLICE FORCE RECORDS MAJOR WINS IN KADUNA STATE SECURITY OPERATIONS

The Nigeria Police Force has made significant strides in enhancing security in Kaduna State, with recent operations yielding impressive results. Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, during press briefing, highlighted the accomplishments on April 10, 2025. The Anti-Kidnapping Unit of the Kaduna State Police Command, in collaboration with the Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA), successfully rescued 17 individuals abducted from Sarkin Pawa, Niger State, on March 3, 2025. The rescued victims, aged between 1 and 35, underwent medical examinations at the Police Clinic in Kaduna and are in stable condition. In a separate operation, police operatives intercepted a Volkswagen Sharan vehicle at Kawo Central Motor Park in Kaduna, confiscating 21 fabricated AK-47 rifles concealed inside. The suspect, 27-year-old Jamilu Suleiman, confessed to being instructed by a union member to deliver the weapons to an unidentified individual. Investigations into the arms trafficking syndicate are ongoing. The police also responded swiftly to a distress call regarding an armed robbery in progress at Doggi Farm along the Kaduna–Abuja Expressway. A fierce shootout ensued, resulting in the neutralization of two robbers and the apprehension of two suspects with injuries. One suspect later died at the Umaru Musa Yar’Adua Memorial Hospital in Sabon Wuse, while the surviving suspect is assisting with ongoing investigations. ACP Adejobi reaffirmed the Nigeria Police Force’s dedication to dismantling criminal networks, restoring peace, and safeguarding lives and property across the nation.

KEBBI POLICE RESCUE KIDNAPPED FEDERAL UNIVERSITY STUDENT UNHURT

The Kebbi State Police Command has successfully rescued a 23-year-old student of the Federal University Birnin Kebbi, Augustine Madubiya, who was kidnapped on April 8, 2025, at Unguwar Jeji, Kalgo Local Government Area of Kebbi State. The rescue operation was carried out by a combined team of policemen and vigilantes at Dakingari forest on April 10, 2025. According to the Commissioner of Police, CP Bello M Sani, the kidnappers abandoned their victim and fled upon sighting the security personnel. Madubiya, a 400-level student of the Economic Department, was found unhurt and is currently receiving medical treatment before being reunited with his family. CP Bello M Sani commended the bravery and professionalism of the Divisional Police Officer, Dakingari, and his team, stating, “The Command’s commitment to safeguarding the lives and property of the peace-loving people of Kebbi State remains unwavering.” The successful rescue operation was followed by a stakeholders’ meeting with the Deputy Governor of Kebbi State, Sen. Abubakar Umar, Tafidan Kabi, and the Vice Chancellor of the university, Professor Muhammad Umar Zayyanu. The meeting focused on improving the security architecture of off-campus hostels, addressing concerns over inadequate accommodation forcing students to reside off-campus. The Kebbi State Government and the police have assured strengthened security around the university and its surroundings. The Vice Chancellor has appealed for support to address the hostel deficit, ensuring students’ safety and well-being. No ransom was paid during the rescue operation, demonstrating the authorities’ commitment to upholding the law and protecting citizens.

POLICE WITHDRAW INVITATION TO ALHAJI SANUSI, DIRECT FID OPERATIVES TO OBTAIN STATEMENT

The Nigeria Police Force has withdrawn its invitation to Alhaji Aminu Sanusi in connection with the unfortunate incident that occurred in Kano State during the Sallah celebration on March 30, 2025. Instead, operatives of the Force Intelligence Department (FID) have been directed to obtain Sanusi’s statement. In a statement, Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, said the decision to withdraw the invitation was made following advice from respected stakeholders and in line with the Inspector-General of Police’s commitment to ensuring that policing actions are not politicized or misinterpreted. Adejobi noted that credible intelligence indicated that the two disputed Emirs in Kano State, Alh Ado Bayero and Alh Lamido Sanusi, were planning to hold separate Durbar Festivals, which could lead to violence. Adejobi stated that despite a mutual agreement between the police and the disputed emirs that no Durbar Festival would be held, Sanusi decided to mount a horse in a procession after Eid Prayers on Sallah Day, accompanied by local vigilantes. This triggered a confrontation that led to the tragic death of one Usman Sagiru and left several others injured. Adejobi reiterated that the police had earlier warned against this action and intended to avert it. The Nigeria Police Force remains committed to conducting its criminal investigation duties with professionalism, and all individuals found culpable will be brought to justice. Some arrests have been made, and the Force wishes to reiterate that its actions are guided by the principles of justice, neutrality, and professionalism. EMIR SANUSI SUMMONED OVER SALLAH CELEBRATION INCIDENT

The Nigeria Police Force has formally invited the 16th Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II, to an investigative meeting regarding an incident that occurred during the recent Sallah celebration. The invitation, dated April 4, 2025, and signed by Commissioner of Police (Operations), CP Olajide Rufus Ibitoye, requests the Emir to report to the Force Intelligence Department headquarters in Abuja on Tuesday, April 8, 2025, by 10:00 a.m. The incident in question involves an alleged killing and attack on vigilante members that occurred within the Emir’s entourage after Eid prayers on March 30, 2025. One suspect, Usman Sagiru, 20, has already been arrested, and another individual, Shamakin Kano, Alhaji Wada Isyaku, has been invited for interrogation. The police had placed a restriction on durbar activities during the Sallah period due to concerns over safety and possible unrest. However, Emir Sanusi reportedly proceeded with the traditional Durbar processions, drawing large crowds and significant media attention on Sallah day and during the Hawan Nasarawa, which included a visit to the Government House. The invitation letter states, “I have the directive of the Inspector-General of Police, through the Deputy Inspector-General of Police, Force Intelligence Department (FID), to invite you for an investigative meeting regarding an incident that occurred during the Sallah celebrations within your domain.” The Emir’s presence is required for a thorough investigation.

DELTA STATE POLICE INVESTIGATE MURDER OF SITE ENGINEER BY EMPLOYEES

The Delta State Police Command has launched an investigation into the murder of Chigozie Udalor, a site engineer who was killed by his employees after discovering he had a substantial amount of money in his bank account. According to the spokesperson of the command, SP Bright Edafe, the police received a report on December 12, 2024, from Hyacinth Nnalue, stating that his cousin, Chigozie Udalor, had been missing since December 10, 2024. Udalor was the site manager at Nnalue’s fish pond in Bod camp Akwukwu Igbo community. Upon receiving the report, the DPO commenced an investigation and later transferred the case to the State Criminal Investigation Department. The state Commissioner of Police, CP Olufemi Abaniwonda, directed the DPO Ekpan CSP Aliyu Shaba to carry out a technically driven investigation. The investigation led to the arrest of two suspects, David Tacho and Daniel Orshio, on March 31, 2025. According to Edafe, “Investigation revealed that David Tacho is a brother to one Victor Tacho who conspired with Pius Daniel, (both presently at large) and Daniel Orshio, and murdered the victim.” The preliminary investigation showed that all four suspects were employed by the deceased, but they discovered he had some money in his Moniepoint account and conspired to kill him. They used a hammer to hit him on the head, tied him, and buried him in a shallow grave at the site. Edafe stated that the two suspects, David Tacho and Daniel Orshio, are currently in custody, while efforts are ongoing to arrest the other two suspects, Pius Daniel and Victor Tacho. The body of the deceased has been exhumed and is awaiting autopsy.

EXPLOSION AT TRANS NIGER DELTA PIPELINE IN RIVERS STATE: POLICE ASSURE RESIDENTS OF SAFETY, LAUNCH INVESTIGATION

The Rivers State Police Command has confirmed a fire incident at the Shell Petroleum Development Company (SPDC)-operated Trans Niger Delta Pipeline, located at the border of Kpor and Bodo communities. The explosion occurred during a routine night patrol, prompting security operatives to alert SPDC management, which swiftly initiated safety protocols, including shutting down the affected pipeline. In a press statement issued on Tuesday, March 18, 2025, the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Grace Iringe-Koko, assured residents that the situation is now under control and poses no further threat to lives or the environment. “The Rivers State Police Command has commenced a thorough investigation to determine the cause of the fire,” the statement read. As part of the investigation, two individuals have been taken in for questioning to ascertain any potential act of sabotage. The Command emphasized its commitment to identifying and prosecuting those responsible for criminal activities. “We urge residents to remain calm and vigilant, assuring them of our unwavering commitment to protecting lives and property,” the statement added. IGP EGBETOKUN REDEPLOYS 7 AIGS, 18 CPs TO BOOST SECURITY NATIONWIDE

The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, has ordered the immediate posting of 7 Assistant Inspectors-General of Police (AIGs) and 18 Commissioners of Police (CPs) to various strategic offices nationwide. The redeployment is aimed at repositioning the force to discharge its duties effectively. According to the IGP, the newly posted AIGs include AIG Margaret Ochalla, AIG Abayomi Peter Oladipo, AIG Fred Ekokotu, AIG Iwo Nemi Edwin Osigboka, AIG Garba Ahmed, AIG Salman Dogo, and AIG Kanayo Uzuegbu. They will oversee various zones and departments, including AIG FCID Annex, Lagos, AIG Zone 13, Ukpo, and AIG Department of Training and Development, Force Headquarters, Abuja. Concurrently, 18 CPs have been posted to act in the capacity of AIGs, pending approval from the Police Service Commission (PSC). They will oversee various zones, departments, and units, including the Police Academy, Kano, AIG Zone 16, Yenagoa, and AIG Interpol, Force Headquarters, Abuja. The IGP has charged the affected officers to justify the confidence reposed in them through exemplary service. AKWA IBOM POLICE ARREST MAN FOR ALLEGEDLY MURDERING WIFE OVER INFIDELITY

The Akwa Ibom Police Command has arrested a 42-year-old man, Victor Okon, for allegedly murdering his 38-year-old wife, Victoria Okoh, at their residence in Oron. According to the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Timfon John, the police received a distress call from concerned residents at 05:20 and swiftly responded to the scene. “On arrival, the officers discovered the mutilated body of the deceased lying outside the house she shared with her husband,” John said. Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspect allegedly attacked his wife with a machete over accusations of infidelity. The suspect attempted to evade arrest by hiding in the ceiling of the house but was apprehended by the police. The machete used in committing the crime was recovered, and photographs of the scene were taken for investigation purposes. The remains of the deceased have been deposited at the state’s General Hospital Morgue for an autopsy. The Commissioner of Police, CP Baba Azare, condemned the act and assured the public that justice would take its full course. “I warn against all forms of domestic violence and call on residents to seek lawful means of resolving disputes rather than resorting to violence,” Azare said. He pledged the commitment of the command toward ensuring the safety of citizens and urged the public to promptly report any suspicious activities to the nearest police formation.
