PRESIDENT TINUBU THREATENS TO SACK FCT MINISTER WIKE OVER UPCOMING ELECTIONS

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has issued a stern warning to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, threatening to dismiss him if the results of the upcoming FCT elections heavily favor the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Wike’s political party. Tinubu made the remarks during a dinner on Saturday evening held to celebrate Eid-El-Fitri, where he emphasized the need for the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) to secure victory in the territory. Addressing attendees, Tinubu revealed he had cautioned Wike, a former PDP governor, to prioritize the APC’s success in the polls. “Give me any opportunity for my party to win elections in FCT. I know where you are coming from, your own party,” Tinubu stated. He further warned, “If this thing goes too much in your own favor, you will lose your job,” underscoring the consequences of a PDP-dominated outcome. The president described his comments as a “political jab” aimed at the FCT minister, referencing Wike’s ongoing infrastructure projects in the capital. “I threw a political jab at Wike. I told him with all these great jobs you’re doing at the FCT, if election favors your party too much than my own party, you’ll lose your job oh…,” Tinubu quipped. The remarks highlight rising political tensions as Wike, a prominent PDP figure, serves in Tinubu’s APC-led administration. Wike, who served as governor of Rivers State under the PDP before his appointment as FCT minister, has yet to publicly respond to the president’s comments. The statement has sparked discussions about the implications of partisan loyalty within key government roles ahead of the elections.
