TCN Dismisses Kaduna Electric’s Jos Power Claim, Says All 330kV Lines Are Working

The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has dismissed claims by Kaduna Electric that transmission constraints are responsible for electricity supply challenges in Jos and its environs.

TCN, in a statement issued on Thursday, said all 330kV transmission lines connected to Jos are operational and currently transmitting bulk electricity.

The company described Kaduna Electric’s August 26 statement as “false” and a “deliberate misrepresentation of facts,” urging electricity consumers to disregard the claim.

TCN explained that there was only one recent operational incident involving a 330kV line supplying Jos.

According to the company, the Jos-Lafia 330kV Line 2 circuit breaker was opened at about 3:30 a.m. on August 23 for voltage control.

It said the action was a routine operational measure aimed at maintaining grid stability and was not a transmission failure.

TCN said the line was successfully restored at 11:59 a.m. on August 24 and has remained in service since then.

“There has been no outage or disruption of bulk electricity transmission on any 330kV line supplying Jos attributable to TCN since that restoration,” the company said.

The clarification followed Kaduna Electric’s statement alleging that transmission constraints were affecting power supply to Jos and surrounding communities.

TCN urged Kaduna Electric and other distribution companies to verify operational information with the transmission company before releasing statements to the public.

It warned that inaccurate claims could misinform electricity consumers and create unnecessary anxiety.

The transmission company said it remains committed to transparency and the efficient transmission of bulk electricity to distribution companies nationwide.

It also assured customers in Jos and surrounding areas that it would continue working with Kaduna Electric and other distribution companies to support stable and reliable electricity supply.
