Two pilots have been confirmed dead after a passenger jet collided with an airport fire truck at LaGuardia Airport, triggering panic among passengers and forcing a temporary shutdown of operations.

The incident occurred during landing when the aircraft struck the emergency vehicle on the runway under circumstances that are still under investigation. Authorities say the pilot and co-pilot suffered fatal injuries on impact, while several passengers and crew members sustained varying degrees of injuries.

Emergency response teams quickly arrived at the scene, evacuating passengers from the aircraft and transporting the injured to nearby hospitals. Images from the scene showed significant damage to the front section of the jet, while the fire truck was also severely impacted.

Preliminary reports indicate the fire truck may have been responding to another situation when it entered the runway. Air traffic control communications are now being reviewed to determine whether there was a breakdown in coordination that led to the collision.

Following the crash, flight operations at LaGuardia Airport were temporarily suspended, causing delays and cancellations across multiple routes.

Both the Federal Aviation Administration and the National Transportation Safety Board have launched a full investigation to determine the exact cause of the accident. Aviation experts say the incident raises serious concerns about runway safety and communication protocols at busy international airports.

Authorities are expected to release more details as the investigation progresses.
