VDM Leads Protest to Makinde’s Residence, Demands Release of Abducted Oriire Pupils, Teachers

A large crowd of protesters led by social commentator and activist, Vincent Otse, popularly known as VDM, on Tuesday stormed the private residence of Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, in Ibadan, demanding urgent action to secure the release of pupils and teachers abducted in Oriire Local Government Area of the state.

The protesters, who commenced their march from Iwo Road, moved through major parts of Ibadan carrying placards and chanting solidarity songs while calling on the state government and security agencies to intensify efforts towards rescuing the victims.

The demonstration was triggered by growing concerns over the continued captivity of the abducted schoolchildren and their teachers, with protesters insisting that more decisive measures were needed to guarantee their safe return.

At the governor’s residence in Ikolaba, the protesters expressed their grievances and demanded immediate government intervention.

Governor Makinde later addressed the crowd, assuring them that security agencies were actively working to secure the release of the victims.

The governor reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to ensuring the safe rescue of the abducted pupils and teachers, while appealing for continued support and cooperation from residents.

The protest comes amid renewed public concern over the safety of schools and the increasing demand for stronger security measures to protect students and educational institutions across the country.
