In a grand celebration of longevity and virtue, Ichie Nathaniel Anyanwu, aged 132, was conferred with the prestigious chieftaincy title of “Ugwunna 1 of Nnachioma” in Obowo Local Government Area of Imo State, Nigeria. The ceremony at Apostolic Church, Umutukulu, Nnachioma Umuariam, drew dignitaries including captains of industries, politicians, traditional title holders and community stakeholders.

High Chief Akujuobi Omenugwa described Anyanwu as the oldest man in Nnachioma and Umuariam communities, saying, “We are not just talking about his age, because when you see him, he looks much younger. God blessed him with strength from birth, and he has lived a life free from evil, which has prolonged his years.” Anyanwu was decorated with traditional regalia and presented with the offor staff of office by HRH Igwe Augustine Adiele’s representative, Prime Minister Chief Edwin Ibeawuchi Obio.

The honour followed community reconciliation after years of internal crisis among Nnachioma’s four wards. It exempts Anyanwu from communal levies, tasking him with praying for peace and progress. Prime Minister Obio appealed for government intervention in gully erosion threatening the community.

Ichie Anyanwu attributed his long life to faithful, peaceful living and minimal pursuit of wealth, praying for community longevity and success. Engr. Iyke Ogugua urged youths to emulate Anyanwu’s lifestyle, avoiding vices like cultism. Family members praised his devotion; grandson Uzoma Anyanwu recalled his grandfather’s palm wine tapping and advice to live honestly. Last-born son High Chief Ogwumba Raymond Anyanwu noted Anyanwu’s Christian devotion and disease-free medical records.

The community affirmed honouring the oldest man will become a tradition, recognizing blessings he brings. Dignitaries including Dr. Chukwuemeka Nwacha and Mr. Ihemadu Anthony lauded the honour, citing Anyanwu’s life as proof of God’s grace.
