VETERAN NOLLYWOOD ACTOR, CHIEF KANRAN, DIES AT 69

Award-winning Nollywood actor, Olusegun Akinremi, popularly known as Chief Kanran, has passed away at the age of 69. According to sources close to the family, Chief Kanran died on Friday, August 15, 2025, after a brief illness.

Filmmaker Seun Oloketuyi confirmed the veteran actor’s death via a post on Instagram, revealing that Chief Kanran passed away on Friday morning. The news of his death has sent shockwaves through the Nollywood community, with many mourning the loss of a legendary actor.

Chief Kanran had a long and illustrious career in the entertainment industry, starting acting professionally in 1975. He played notable roles in various stage productions, including “Kurunmi” and “Langbodo”, the latter of which was Nigeria’s drama entry to Festac ’77. He also appeared in several television shows, including “Mirror in the Sun” and “Images”, where he played the role of a businessman.

On television, Chief Kanran acted as Alaafin Kanran in a drama shown on Lagos Television on October 1, 1988. With a career spanning over four decades, Chief Kanran will be remembered for his iconic roles and contributions to the Nigerian entertainment industry.
