ALL PASSENGERS SAFE IN WARRI-ITAKPE TRAIN DERAILMENT, NRC CONFIRMS

A train derailment incident occurred on the Warri-Itakpe route yesterday evening, involving two out of seven coaches at Kilometer 212+8m near Agbor. The incident took place at approximately 19:30 hours, with preliminary investigations pointing to suspected track vandalism as the cause.

In a statement, Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer Kayode Opeifa confirmed that all passengers on board were safely evacuated to Agbor and fully accounted for, with no casualties or injuries recorded. Opeifa stated that recovery operations, supported by security personnel, have been ongoing at the site since last night and are progressing steadily, with completion expected soon.

Due to the incident, train services on the corridor have been temporarily suspended today to enable a comprehensive security and safety audit of the track and related infrastructure. Opeifa expressed sincere regret for any inconvenience caused to passengers and the public, assuring that normal operations will resume as soon as it is verified safe to do so.
