Kano State is in mourning following the sudden deaths of two serving members of the Kano State House of Assembly on Wednesday. The lawmakers passed away within a short time of each other, sending shockwaves across the state.

The deceased are Hon. Aminu Sa’adu, also referred to as Hon. Aminu Saad Ungogo, who represented the Ungoggo/Ungogo Constituency, and Hon. Sarki Aliyu Daneji, who represented the Kano Municipal Constituency.

Reports indicate that Hon. Aminu Sa’adu passed away first, with news of Hon. Sarki Aliyu Daneji’s death emerging just minutes later. The official causes of their deaths have not been disclosed.

The tragic news was confirmed by Sanusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, the Spokesman to Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, via a post on his verified social media account. The announcement captured the moment of profound loss, noting the Islamic phrase of condolence, “Innalillahi Wa Inna Ilaihirrajiun,” which translates to “Surely we belong to Allah and to Him we shall return.” This was followed by the announcement of Hon. Daneji’s passing shortly after his colleague’s.

The state government and the legislative assembly are expected to issue formal statements as the community grapples with this double tragedy.
