LABOUR PARTY’S DATTI BABA-AHMED DECLARES 2027 PRESIDENTIAL AMBITION
Labour Party chieftain and former vice presidential candidate, Datti Baba-Ahmed, has officially declared his ambition to contest the presidency in the 2027 general election. He made the announcement at a rally held at the Labour Party national secretariat in Abuja on Wednesday.

Baba-Ahmed, who was the running mate to Mr Peter Obi in the 2023 election, stated that his presidential aspiration predates the last election and is independent of Obi’s recent political decisions. “I have made myself to contest for the office in 2027. I’m not following anybody’s trajectory or stepping into anybody’s shoes,” Baba-Ahmed said.
He emphasized the longevity of his ambition, referencing records to support his claim. “Can I please remind you that before His Excellency Governor Peter Obi filed for the presidency, I aspired for the presidency before him? The records are there for you to see,” he added. He described his aspiration as neither reactionary nor dependent on Obi’s political decisions.
This declaration comes more than one year ahead of the 2027 presidential election and follows the recent defection of Peter Obi to the African Democratic Congress, ADC, last week in Enugu. Baba-Ahmed has consistently maintained that he and Peter Obi won the 2023 presidential election.
