Former Presidential candidate and key figure in the African Democratic Congress, former Governor of Anambra State, Peter Obi has officially declared his candidacy for the 2027 presidential election. He made this declaration while campaigning for ADC candidates in the Federal Capital Territory’s Area Council elections, emphasizing his determination to vie for the top position.

According to the former governor, success in the Abuja Municipal Area Council election is crucial to his wider political aspirations. He urged party faithful and local residents to support the ADC candidate, stressing that his involvement is as a leading contender. “I am involved and contesting the coming election as number one,” he stated, adding that he would not settle for a subordinate role in the party’s long-term strategy.

Obi expressed confidence in his ability to lead, citing his experience and achievements. His supporters, particularly members of the Obidient Movement, are pressuring the ADC leadership to adopt him as the party’s sole standard-bearer for 2027. Many insist that the presidential ticket should be his alone.

However, the ADC is also hosting other high-profile politicians with presidential ambitions, including former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and former Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi. With Obi’s declaration, the 2027 presidential election is shaping up to be a closely contested race. As the ADC prepares to unveil its candidate, Obi’s supporters will be eager to see if he can secure the party’s nomination.
