Fear and chaos gripped Oke Daaba in Oro-Ago community, Ifelodun Local Government Area of Kwara State, after more than 70 heavily armed terrorists reportedly stormed the area on Sunday evening, killing at least two people and leaving a local vigilante officer with serious gunshot injuries. According to local sources, the attackers invaded the once-quiet community and opened fire, forcing residents to run for safety as gunshots rang through the area. A security source from the community said the terrorists launched a coordinated assault on residents before local vigilantes quickly mobilised to resist them.

“They were more than 70 terrorists; they started shooting at people and they shot one of our vigilante officers,” the source said. The source added that the vigilantes stood their ground and exchanged fire with the attackers, a move many residents believe prevented an even bigger tragedy. “It was during the confrontation that two people were killed and one vigilante officer was seriously injured. He was rushed to the hospital for urgent medical attention,” the source added.

As of the time of reporting, it remained unclear whether anyone was kidnapped during the attack, but residents say the growing insecurity in Kwara South has become deeply alarming. Some community members accused the government of abandoning them to face armed groups alone, warning that rural communities in the region are increasingly becoming easy targets. In a disturbing video said to have emerged after the attack, the injured vigilante officer was seen lying in a pool of blood before later receiving treatment in a hospital.

Residents now fear that if urgent action is not taken, repeated attacks could force people to flee their homes and allow criminal groups to spread deeper into nearby towns and communities. Locals are calling on both the Kwara State Government and federal security agencies to urgently deploy more personnel and strengthen security presence in the area before the situation worsens.
