Victor Osimhen has been released from hospital and is now entering the rehabilitation phase following a successful operation on a fractured right forearm, sparking optimism among Galatasaray and Nigeria supporters that he could return to action sooner than initially predicted.

The 27-year-old forward underwent surgery at Maslak Acıbadem Hospital in Istanbul last Tuesday in a procedure that lasted roughly three hours. The operation was led by club physician Op. Dr. Yener İnce after medical scans confirmed the extent of the fracture, which Osimhen suffered during a UEFA Champions League round of 16 encounter against Liverpool at Anfield following a mid-air collision with defender Ibrahima Konaté. Despite the injury, the striker displayed his characteristic resilience by continuing play until the halftime break before being substituted.

Although initial plans called for his discharge the day after surgery, Osimhen made a personal request to remain in the hospital for additional observation, aiming to create the most favorable conditions for an uninterrupted recovery. During his extended stay, a security guard was stationed outside his room, and even close family members were kept at a distance to ensure total focus on his healing process. Turkish journalist Haluk Yürekli reported that Osimhen conveyed to club officials, “I don’t want to be discharged; I want my care to continue here so I can return sooner.”

Club officials have welcomed the decision, interpreting it as another indication of the striker’s dedication and strong work ethic.

While early estimates suggested Osimhen would be sidelined for six to eight weeks, newer projections point to a recovery period of four to six weeks, fueling hopes of an accelerated comeback. Osimhen had previously indicated he could be match-fit within four weeks, followed by an additional two weeks to regain full sharpness.

Galatasaray is eyeing the Istanbul derby against archrivals Fenerbahçe on April 26 as the primary target for his return, with some speculation suggesting he could even be in contention to start if his rehabilitation continues without complications. Upon his return, he is expected to play while wearing a protective splint on his injured arm. The club, however, is expected to proceed with caution and will avoid taking unnecessary risks that could lead to a setback.

The timing of his recovery carries significant weight for Galatasaray’s championship ambitions. The Istanbul side currently sits atop the Super Lig standings with 64 points, holding a four-point advantage over second-place Fenerbahçe with a game still in hand.

Prior to the injury, Osimhen had been enjoying a stellar campaign, recording 19 goals and seven assists in 29 appearances across all competitions, highlighted by several standout performances in European competition. Konaté has since apologized to the Nigerian international for the collision that led to the injury.
