President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved a series of strategic appointments across key economic and energy institutions, naming a new Chairman for the Nigeria Commodity Exchange (NCX), appointing a fresh Executive Secretary for the Petroleum Technology Development Fund (PTDF), and renewing the tenure of the Managing Director of the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN).

The appointments, which take immediate effect, were disclosed in a statement issued on April 2, 2026, by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga.

At the Nigeria Commodity Exchange, the President approved the appointment of Alhaji Dalhatu Abubakar as Chairman of the Board. His appointment is seen as part of efforts to strengthen structured commodity markets, enhance private sector participation, and support the administration’s drive for food security and non-oil export growth.

Abubakar, a notable agribusiness investor, is Chairman of Al-Hamsad Integrated Rice Mills and currently serves as President of the Conference of Northern States Chambers of Commerce, Industry, Mines and Agriculture (CONSCCIMA). He has also previously led the Kano Chamber of Commerce, Industry, Mines and Agriculture (KACCIMA).

Born in Maiduguri, Borno State, he holds a National Diploma in Business Management and Administration from Kaduna Polytechnic and is widely respected for his role in advancing agricultural industrialisation and mentoring emerging entrepreneurs.

In a separate appointment, President Tinubu named Professor Shu’aibu Shehu Aliyu as the new Executive Secretary of the Petroleum Technology Development Fund. He takes over from Ahmed Galadima Aminu, who stepped down to pursue his governorship ambition in Adamawa State ahead of the 2027 elections.

Before his appointment, Aliyu served as Executive Secretary of the National Commission for Mass Literacy, Adult and Non-Formal Education. He is regarded as an experienced academic and administrator with a track record in institutional leadership and education development.

The Presidency said his appointment reflects a commitment to strengthening capacity development in Nigeria’s oil and gas sector, with expectations that he will drive innovation and enhance human capital development within the PTDF.

Meanwhile, the President also renewed the appointment of Engineer Sule Ahmed Abdulaziz as Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of the Transmission Company of Nigeria for a second and final term.

According to the statement, the renewal followed a positive review of his performance, particularly in improving grid stability, expanding transmission infrastructure, and advancing system modernisation.

With over 30 years of experience in the power sector, Abdulaziz has also contributed to regional electricity integration through his leadership role in the West African Power Pool.

President Tinubu charged all appointees to serve with integrity, diligence, and a strong sense of national duty, in line with the objectives of the Renewed Hope Agenda.
