Former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir Ahmad El-Rufai, on Monday appeared before the Kaduna State High Court as proceedings resumed in his ongoing trial instituted by the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC).

El-Rufai is standing trial alongside Amadu Sule over allegations bordering on abuse of office, fraud, intent to commit fraud, and conferring undue advantage, among other charges.

Moments before entering the courtroom, the former governor was heard in a brief exchange with an associate regarding the forthcoming convention of the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

“So tomorrow is our convention, right?” he asked, to which the associate replied, “God willing,” indicating his continued involvement in party activities despite the legal proceedings.

In a related development, El-Rufai is also facing a separate 10-count charge at the Federal High Court in Kaduna. The charges, also filed by the ICPC, include allegations of abuse of office, money laundering, and fraud involving N579.6 million and $1.1 million.

A bail hearing in the matter has been scheduled for April 14.
