American singer-songwriter D4vd, whose real name is David Burke, has been formally charged with first-degree murder in connection with the death of a 14-year-old girl, authorities in Los Angeles confirmed.

The victim, identified as Celeste Rivas Hernandez, had been reported missing in 2024 before her decomposed remains were discovered in September 2025 inside a Tesla vehicle registered to the singer. The car had reportedly been left abandoned in a Hollywood Hills neighbourhood before being towed, where officials later detected a foul odour and uncovered the body.

Prosecutors allege that the 21-year-old musician not only killed the teenager but also dismembered and concealed her remains. The charges include special circumstances such as lying in the wait and murder of a potential witness, which could make him eligible for the death penalty if convicted.

In addition to the murder charge, Burke faces multiple counts related to alleged sexual offences involving a minor, as well as unlawful mutilation of human remains.

Authorities believe the victim may have had prior contact with the singer before her disappearance, which is now central to the ongoing investigation. Prosecutors have suggested that the alleged crime may have been committed to prevent damaging information from becoming public.

D4vd, who rose to fame through viral music on TikTok and chart-topping singles, was arrested in April 2026 and is currently being held without bail. His legal team has denied the allegations, stating that he will “vigorously” defend himself in court.

The case has sparked widespread public attention, not only because of the severity of the charges but also due to the singer’s rapid rise in the global music scene.
