Jared Leto Faces Fresh Scrutiny After BBC Documentary, Denies All Sexual Assault Allegations

Academy Award-winning actor and musician Jared Leto has strongly denied allegations of sexual assault and other sexual misconduct made in a new BBC documentary, describing the claims as “absolutely and categorically false.” The documentary, Jared Leto: Hollywood’s Dark Secret, features allegations from four women who claim they experienced criminal sexual conduct involving Leto between 2002 and 2016, when they were teenagers and he was in his 30s and 40s.

In a statement issued after the documentary aired, Leto said: “I have never sexually assaulted anyone in my entire life. These claims are absolutely and categorically false.” He added that he would continue to defend himself against what he described as untrue allegations.

According to the BBC investigation, the four women accuse Leto of a range of alleged offences. The claims include an alleged sexual assault involving a 17-year-old, an allegation of statutory rape involving another 17-year-old, sexually explicit telephone conversations and propositions directed at a 16-year-old, and threats of sexual assault made against a 19-year-old woman. The BBC said it spent months investigating the allegations and corroborated elements of the women’s accounts through interviews, documents and other evidence, although the allegations have not been tested in court.

The documentary also includes testimony from additional women and former associates who describe what they allege was a pattern of inappropriate behaviour involving young female fans. Some former crew members claimed they witnessed efforts to bring underage girls into contact with Leto backstage during concerts. Leto denies all of these allegations.

The latest claims come after similar allegations surfaced in a 2025 investigative report published by Air Mail, in which nine women accused Leto of sexual misconduct, including allegations involving underage girls. Leto rejected those accusations at the time, and his representatives again insist that the latest claims are false.

Neither the BBC documentary nor the recent reports indicate that Leto has been charged with any criminal offence in connection with the allegations. Legal experts note that the accusations remain allegations, and no court has ruled on their validity. The Associated Press also reported that it was unable to independently verify the women’s claims.

Leto, 54, is one of Hollywood’s best-known actors and musicians. He won the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor for his performance in Dallas Buyers Club and is the lead singer of the rock band Thirty Seconds to Mars. He has also starred in films including Suicide Squad, Blade Runner 2049 and Morbius.

The BBC documentary has renewed scrutiny of Leto’s career and personal conduct, adding to wider discussions within the entertainment industry about accountability, the treatment of young performers and fans, and the handling of historical allegations of sexual misconduct. Whether the allegations lead to legal action or further investigations remains unclear, but the controversy is expected to continue drawing significant public and industry attention.
