Wizkid Becomes First African Artist to Surpass 12 Billion Spotify Streams
Nigerian Afrobeats star Wizkid has been credited as the first African artist to surpass 12 billion streams on Spotify across all credits, according to the music statistics account WizStatz.
The milestone was announced on Monday, with WizStatz posting on X: “WIZKID (@wizkidayo) becomes the first African Artist to surpass 12 Billion Streams On Spotify Across All Credits”.
The figure covers streams from Wizkid’s solo releases as a lead artist, as well as collaborations and guest appearances on tracks by other musicians.
The achievement follows his previous record in May 2026, when he became the first African artist to reach 11 billion Spotify streams across all credits. He had reportedly crossed the 10 billion mark in January 2026.

A significant portion of his streaming total is driven by his 2016 collaboration with Drake and Kyla on “One Dance,” which has reportedly amassed more than 4.5 billion streams on its own. His 2020 hit “Essence” featuring Tems, particularly the 2021 Justin Bieber remix, also contributed substantially to his global reach.
It is important to note that the 12 billion figure has not been officially confirmed by Spotify.
Independent tracking platform Kworb listed Wizkid at approximately 11.66 billion streams in its October 25 update, leaving the milestone subject to verification as tracking data continues to update.
