The Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN), Sule Ahmed Abdulaziz, has pledged to deliver a results-driven second term focused on improving bulk electricity transmission and strengthening the national grid.

Abdulaziz made the commitment during his first town hall meeting with staff at the company’s headquarters in Abuja, following his reappointment by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for another five-year tenure.

According to a statement by TCN’s General Manager, Public Affairs, Ndidi Mbah, the CEO described his reappointment as a call to greater responsibility aligned with the administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda for the power sector.

“This is not just a continuation. It is a call to greater responsibility… to implement practical, measurable, and sustainable reforms that will significantly improve power delivery,” he said.

Abdulaziz highlighted progress made in the transmission sector, noting that grid wheeling capacity has increased from about 5,000 megawatts in 2015 to over 8,700 megawatts currently, driven by sustained investments in infrastructure and expansion projects nationwide.

He disclosed that over 82 transformers have been installed within 23 months, including 15 high-capacity 300MVA units deployed across key transmission stations such as Akangbe, Lekki, Ikeja West, Osogbo, Jos, Gombe, Kano, Abuja, and Benin.

The TCN boss added that the company has also commissioned multiple substations and strengthened grid stability through improved maintenance practices, upgraded protection systems, and enhanced operational coordination.

He further noted that interventions supported by international partners including the World Bank, African Development Bank, Japan International Cooperation Agency, and Agence Française de Développement have significantly boosted transmission capacity across the country.

Despite criticisms, Abdulaziz maintained that TCN possesses one of the most technically skilled workforces in the power sector, attributing recent achievements to staff dedication and resilience.

Looking ahead, he said the focus will be on translating infrastructure growth into tangible outcomes for Nigerians through stable and reliable electricity supply to distribution companies.

He called on staff and union leaders to sustain their cooperation, stressing that teamwork would be critical to achieving the company’s objectives.

Earlier, Executive Director, Human Resources and Corporate Services, Abiodun Afolabi Fadahunsi, said the town hall meeting was designed to promote transparency and inclusiveness within the organisation.

Also speaking, Executive Director, Transmission Service Provider, Oluwabenga Ajiboye, urged staff to remain committed to the administration’s goals, while Executive Director, Finance and Accounts, Chuks Ochije, assured workers of prompt payment of their entitlements.
