Nigeria Exceeds OPEC Oil Production Quota as Output Hits 74-Month High
Nigeria’s crude oil production surpassed its Organisation of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) quota in June 2026, with combined crude oil and condensate output rising to an average of 1.735 million barrels per day (mbpd), marking the country’s highest production level in more than six years.
Latest figures released by the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC) show that the country recorded 1.56 mbpd of crude oil and 0.18 mbpd of condensates during the month, representing the fourth consecutive month of production growth.
The crude oil output exceeded Nigeria’s 1.5 mbpd OPEC production quota, achieving 104 per cent compliance.
The NUPRC data indicates that the 1.56 mbpd crude oil production excluding condensates is Nigeria’s highest monthly average since April 2020, representing a 74-month high for Africa’s largest oil producer.
Production figures also revealed that combined crude oil and condensate output peaked at 1.89 mbpd during the month, suggesting Nigeria is edging closer to the 2 mbpd production target, while the lowest daily production recorded in June stood at 1.57 mbpd.
Nigeria’s oil production has maintained a steady upward trend over the past five months, rising from 1.483 mbpd in February to 1.546 mbpd in March, 1.663 mbpd in April, 1.700 mbpd in May, and 1.735 mbpd in June, representing a 2.2 per cent month-on-month increase.
According to the NUPRC, the improved output was driven by stable operations across producing assets and the absence of major pipeline outages during the review period, helping to sustain the country’s production recovery.
