A rowdy scene erupted on Thursday at the national secretariat of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Abuja as former Vice President Atiku Abubakar submitted his Expression of Interest and Nomination forms for the 2027 presidential election.

The atmosphere at the party headquarters turned chaotic as hundreds of supporters and political loyalists flooded the venue ahead of Atiku’s arrival, struggling to gain access to the hall where the submission exercise was scheduled to hold.

Eyewitnesses said security personnel and private bouncers stationed at the entrance were overwhelmed by the surging crowd as supporters forced their way into the building.

In the process, doors at the entrance of the hall were reportedly damaged after supporters pushed past security operatives in an attempt to catch a glimpse of the former presidential candidate.

The commotion temporarily disrupted activities at the secretariat, with journalists, party officials and invited guests struggling to gain access amid the heavy crowd.

Some journalists covering the event were reportedly shoved aside as supporters stormed the hall moments after breaching the entrance.

Witnesses described the scene as chaotic, likening the rush into the venue to “a swarm of bees” after the doors were forced open.

Despite the excitement surrounding his appearance, Atiku declined to address journalists after submitting the nomination forms.

Attempts by reporters to speak with the former vice president proved unsuccessful as he reportedly exited the premises through an underground basement route, avoiding the waiting crowd and media personnel gathered at the main entrance.

The submission of the forms marks another significant step in Atiku’s anticipated bid for the presidency in the 2027 general elections, amid increasing political activity and realignments across major opposition parties.
