Osun Accord Party Alleges Police-APC Plot To Attack Governor Adeleke’s Media Aides

The Osun State chapter of the Accord Party has raised the alarm over what it describes as a clandestine plot by compromised officers of the Osun Police Command to use political thugs linked to the All Progressives Congress (APC) to launch violent attacks on members of Governor Ademola Adeleke’s media unit and other social media promoters.

The party, in a news release issued on July 31, 2026, said credible intelligence within the police command indicated that some officers, uncomfortable with the daily exposure of their partisan and unprofessional conduct, recently debated ways to keep the Governor’s media aides away from the public space.

The party alleged that the officers resolved to use APC thugs to give themselves room for deniability in the event the plot backfires.

The Accord Party cited a recent attack on an Aide of the Governor, Adekunle Akinrinade, who serves as the S.A on Youth Parliament.

According to the party, he was attacked in broad daylight along the campaign office of APC at Ogooluwa area in Osogbo, without even putting on any paraphernalia of Accord, which suggests he was trailed by the thugs before the attack.

While acknowledging the partisan posture of the Osun Police Command, the party expressed alarm that it could contemplate harming citizens it is paid to secure just to satisfy certain political interests. The party condemned this as a gross betrayal of responsibility.

The Accord Party described the conduct of the Osun Police Command, including this recent plot, as an unprecedented failure of policing in the history of Nigeria.

The statement held the Police Commissioner, Mr. Ibrahim Gotan, and Mr. Lukman Afolabi (Eluku) responsible for any harm that befalls members of the Governor’s media team or any persons associated with the Adeleke administration.

The party maintained that working for the Osun State Government under Governor Adeleke is not a crime and rejected the attempt to criminalise such association.

Pastor Victor Akande, the Accord Chairman in Osun State, who signed the release, called on lovers of democracy to come to their aid and defend their rights to make democratic choices without hindrances.
