The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has appointed former Arise News anchor, Dr Chiogo Constance Ikokwu, as spokesperson for the Obi/Kwankwaso National Campaign Council ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Ikokwu’s appointment was contained in a list of appointments released by the party as it prepares to strengthen its communication and media engagement ahead of the elections.

She brings more than two decades of experience in journalism across print, radio and television, with expertise in political communication, media strategy and international affairs.

Her professional career includes serving as Washington, DC Bureau Chief and Deputy Editor at THISDAY Newspapers, as well as a political analyst and anchor at Arise News. She has also worked in academia, specialising in journalism and communications.

Ikokwu holds a PhD in Journalism and Communications, with research focused on the intersection of media and politics.

She previously served as Strategic Communications Adviser to former Minister of Finance, Dr Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, and former Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment, Dr Okechukwu Enelamah.

The appointment follows her recent participation in the NDC’s nomination process for the House of Representatives seat representing Idemili North and South Federal Constituency in Anambra State.

In her new role, Ikokwu is expected to communicate the positions of the Obi/Kwankwaso ticket, articulate campaign messages and engage the media on the party’s programmes and priorities.

Her appointment comes as the NDC prepares to expand its public communication and engagement with Nigerians ahead of the 2027 general elections.
