Five Feared Dead as Building Under Construction Collapses in Abuja

At least five persons have been confirmed dead after a three-storey building under construction collapsed in the Durumi 3 area near Gudu Market in Abuja on Saturday morning.

The incident occurred around Gaduwa Estate in the Gudu axis, where eyewitnesses said dozens of construction workers were on site when the structure suddenly gave way.

According to residents, about 70 workers were reportedly inside the building at the time of the collapse.

Emergency responders and security officials were immediately deployed to the scene to begin search-and-rescue operations for victims trapped beneath the debris.

As of the time of filing this report, three bodies had been recovered from the rubble, while efforts were ongoing to rescue other trapped workers.

 

The incident drew a large crowd of residents and sympathisers who gathered around the area as rescue teams continued operations.

Authorities had yet to officially determine the cause of the collapse at the time of this report.
