Senate Blocks Funding Tied to Trump’s White House Ballroom Plan
Republican efforts to secure taxpayer funding connected to President Donald Trump’s proposed White House ballroom project have suffered a setback after the U.S. Senate parliamentarian removed the controversial provision from a major spending bill.

The decision by Senate Parliamentarian Elizabeth MacDonough struck out security funding that could have been used for the planned ballroom project, dealing a blow to the Trump administration and Republican lawmakers backing the proposal.
The funding had been included in a broader Republican package focused on immigration enforcement and border security. Lawmakers pushing the measure reportedly sought federal funds for Secret Service related security upgrades linked to the White House project.
Although Trump has maintained that the ballroom itself would be financed through private donations, Democrats argued that public funds were still indirectly being used to support the project.
MacDonough reportedly ruled that the proposal violated Senate budget rules because the White House renovation plan did not qualify under the special reconciliation process Republicans hoped to use to pass the legislation without Democratic support.
Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer welcomed the ruling, accusing Republicans of attempting to make taxpayers pay for Trump’s ballroom ambitions.
Republican leaders, however, are expected to revise and reintroduce parts of the legislation in an effort to preserve elements of the security funding package.
The proposed ballroom project has sparked intense political debate in recent weeks, with critics describing it as an unnecessary luxury project at a time many Americans are facing economic hardship and rising living costs.
