A man has been killed after a suspected attack by a 13-foot great white shark off the coast of Western Australia, in a rare and shocking incident that has prompted renewed warnings about ocean safety in the region.

Emergency services were called to the remote beach area after reports of a swimmer being attacked in the water by what witnesses described as a large shark. Despite a rapid response, the man could not be saved.

Authorities believe the attack involved a great white shark, one of the most powerful marine predators, though investigations are ongoing to confirm the exact circumstances of the incident. Beaches in the surrounding area have since been closed as a precaution while patrols and monitoring efforts continue.

The incident has alarmed local communities and beachgoers, with officials urging the public to adhere strictly to safety advisories and shark warnings issued along the coastline. Drone surveillance and shark-spotting programs have also been intensified following the attack.

Fatal shark encounters remain rare in Australia, but experts note that coastal waters inhabited by species such as the great white shark can occasionally produce dangerous interactions, particularly in areas where humans and marine predators share feeding or migration routes.

Marine authorities are expected to release further details after forensic and environmental assessments are completed.
