Fresh revelations have emerged following the death of Nollywood actor Alex Ekubo, with his family confirming that the late star was secretly married and had fathered a child before his passing. The actor died on May 11, 2026, at Evercare Hospital in Lagos at the age of 40 after battling advanced metastatic kidney cancer.

In a statement released by his family, the late actor was described as a “beloved husband, son, brother and friend,” wording that confirmed for the first time publicly that Ekubo had a wife . The description suggested the actor had quietly built a family life away from public attention before his death.

Many colleagues and fans were left in shock following the revelation because the actor never publicly announced any marriage or child throughout his years in the entertainment industry . Some close associates admitted they were unaware of his alleged marriage or fatherhood, saying he kept such details strictly within family circles.

Fellow actor Williams Uchemba addressed the revelation in a recent interview, saying, “Alex was married before he passed away but I don’t want to go into full details. I believe it is the family that should let the public know. Concerning if he had a child, I will let his immediate family put that out. Let me respect his wish to keep his life private”.

The decision to keep his family life secret was reportedly influenced by the painful end of his widely publicized engagement to US-based model Fancy Acholonu in 2021 . That broken engagement dominated entertainment headlines and exposed him to intense public scrutiny and online criticism.

Sources close to his professional circle claimed the experience influenced his decision to withdraw personal matters from public discussion . His preference for privacy was also shaped by a desire to protect his family from online bullying and persistent speculation about his personal life.

Actor Grace Makun also referenced his marital status in a tribute, writing, “Your guys are not ok o Ikuku, your parents, siblings, wife, your gang, your colleagues, fans ahhhhh” . The actor had been largely absent from public view and social media since December 2024.

The family has requested privacy while funeral arrangements are being made, with reports suggesting he may be buried in two weeks . Williams Uchemba added, “What Alex has achieved in 40 years, some 90 years old have not achieved it. He tried not to let negative things get to him”.
