The Kogi State Government has suspended the annual Echane Festival in Ebiraland, citing security concerns and the need to preserve peace and public order across the area.

The government announced the immediate suspension on Sunday, saying the decision was taken as a precautionary measure to prevent any breakdown of law and order during the period traditionally associated with the cultural festival.

In a statement, state authorities urged residents, traditional institutions, community leaders, and other stakeholders to comply fully with the directive in the interest of public safety.

The government stressed that maintaining peace and protecting lives and property remain top priorities, adding that intelligence reports and prevailing security considerations informed the decision.

While details surrounding the security concerns were not immediately disclosed, officials assured residents that further information regarding the suspension and any future decisions on the festival would be communicated at the appropriate time.

The Echane Festival is one of the most prominent cultural events in Ebiraland, attracting participation from various communities and serving as an important symbol of the area’s cultural heritage and traditions.

However, the state government noted that public safety considerations must take precedence over all other interests.

Residents have been advised to remain law-abiding and cooperate with security agencies as authorities continue efforts to ensure peace and stability across the state.

The development comes amid growing concerns over security challenges in parts of the country, prompting several state governments to adopt preventive measures aimed at averting potential unrest and protecting citizens.
