Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has called for urgent and collective action to address climate change and protect the environment as the world marks World Environment Day 2026.

In a message commemorating the annual event on Friday, June 5, the First Lady joined millions of people around the globe in advocating stronger efforts to safeguard the planet and ensure a sustainable future for generations to come.

Speaking on the theme, “A Global Call for Climate Action,” Tinubu noted that climate change has become a pressing reality, with its effects increasingly visible through rising temperatures, flooding, drought, desertification, and other forms of environmental degradation.

According to her, these environmental challenges continue to threaten lives, livelihoods, food security, and public health across Nigeria and many parts of the world.

The First Lady stressed that governments, communities, and individuals all have important roles to play in tackling environmental challenges through sustainable practices, responsible management of natural resources, and the development of climate-resilient societies.

She urged Nigerians to support efforts aimed at restoring the environment and reducing the impact of climate change, emphasizing that collective action remains essential to achieving a safer, greener, and more sustainable future.

Tinubu concluded by encouraging citizens to unite in the global movement for climate action and environmental protection as the world confronts the growing challenges posed by climate change.
