Nigeria and Russia have reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening bilateral relations following the formal presentation of credentials by Nigeria’s newly appointed Ambassador to the Russian Federation, Joseph Olusola Iji.

The Nigerian envoy presented copies of his credentials to Russia’s Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Georgy Evgenievich Borisenko during a meeting held on June 18 in Moscow, marking the beginning of his diplomatic tenure in the country.

During the talks, both sides reviewed key issues concerning the future of Nigeria-Russia relations and explored ways to expand cooperation across several strategic sectors.

The discussions focused on enhancing political engagement between the two countries and advancing collaboration in trade, economic development, science and technology, humanitarian affairs, and other areas of mutual interest.

Officials from both nations underscored the importance of building on the longstanding friendship between Nigeria and Russia, while expressing readiness to deepen partnerships that would promote shared growth and development.

The meeting comes as both countries continue to seek stronger international partnerships and greater economic cooperation in an increasingly interconnected global environment.

Ambassador Iji’s appointment is expected to inject fresh momentum into diplomatic engagements between Abuja and Moscow, with both governments signaling a desire to broaden cooperation and strengthen ties across multiple sectors.
