APC’s Oyebanji Wins Landslide Re-Election in Ekiti, Sweeps All 16 LGAs

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has declared Governor Biodun Oyebanji of the All Progressives Congress (APC) as the winner of the 2026 Ekiti State governorship election after securing a commanding victory across the state’s 16 local government areas.

Announcing the final results, INEC declared that Oyebanji polled a total of 319,224 votes, defeating his closest rival from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), who garnered 40,543 votes. The African Democratic Congress (ADC) candidate came third with 12,872 votes.

According to the results released by the electoral commission, the APC dominated voting in all local government areas, recording overwhelming margins in key councils including Ado-Ekiti, Irepodun/Ifelodun, Ekiti West, Ikole and Ekiti East.

In Ado-Ekiti Local Government Area, the APC secured 38,026 votes, while the PDP and ADC polled 3,817 and 1,054 votes respectively. The ruling party also posted strong performances in Irepodun/Ifelodun with 29,278 votes and Ekiti West with 28,258 votes.

Other notable results showed the APC polling 26,508 votes in Ikole LGA, 26,359 in Ekiti East, 25,506 in Ijero, and 20,500 votes in Moba Local Government Area.

The PDP’s strongest showing came in Ikere LGA where it secured 9,892 votes, but this was still insufficient to overcome the APC’s 11,116 votes in the council.

INEC stated that a total of 384,940 voters were accredited for the election. The total valid votes stood at 375,777, while 6,332 ballots were rejected, bringing the total votes cast to 382,109.

The outcome gives Governor Oyebanji a renewed mandate for another term in office and further consolidates the APC’s political dominance in Ekiti State.

The landslide victory is expected to strengthen the governor’s position within the party and provide momentum for the implementation of his administration’s development agenda over the next four years.
