Trump Announces First-Ever Republican Midterm Convention in Dallas Ahead of Critical 2026 Elections
U.S. President Donald Trump has announced that the Republican Party will hold its first-ever national midterm convention in Dallas this September, marking an unprecedented effort to rally supporters and boost voter turnout ahead of the November congressional elections.
The two-day convention is scheduled for September 9–10 and is expected to bring together thousands of Republican delegates, elected officials, party activists and supporters. Unlike traditional national conventions, which are held only during presidential election years, this gathering is designed specifically to strengthen the party’s campaign efforts before the 2026 midterms.
Announcing the event on his Truth Social platform, Trump described the gathering as a “truly Historic Event” and said it would celebrate what he called the “Great American Comeback.” He said the convention would showcase achievements under his administration’s “America First” agenda, including tax relief measures, border security initiatives, increased domestic energy production and economic policies aimed at lowering costs for American families.
Political analysts say the convention reflects the high stakes facing Republicans as they seek to retain control of Congress. The party currently holds narrow majorities, and history has often shown that the party occupying the White House loses seats during midterm elections. Should Democrats regain control of either chamber, they could significantly slow Trump’s legislative agenda while increasing oversight and investigations into his administration.
The convention will be held at the American Airlines Center, a venue capable of hosting large political events and national gatherings. It will be the first Republican national convention in Dallas since 1984, with local officials welcoming the economic impact expected from thousands of visitors attending the event.
Texas is expected to play a major role in this year’s midterm elections. One of the country’s most closely watched races is the U.S. Senate contest between Republican nominee Ken Paxton, who has Trump’s endorsement, and Democratic candidate James Talarico. The convention is expected to provide a major platform for Republican candidates campaigning across the state and nationwide.
Republican National Committee leaders have described the gathering as an opportunity to unite the party, energize volunteers and sharpen campaign messaging ahead of Election Day. Additional details, including keynote speakers, programming and security arrangements, are expected to be announced in the coming weeks.
The unprecedented convention underscores Trump’s continued influence over the Republican Party and highlights the central role he is expected to play in the 2026 campaign season, even though he is not on the ballot. With control of Congress at stake, party leaders hope the Dallas event will generate momentum and strengthen Republican campaigns across the country heading into one of the most consequential midterm elections in recent history.
