Meta Unveils AI Image Generator for WhatsApp, Instagram and Facebook
Meta has launched Muse Image, its first artificial intelligence-powered image generation model, introducing new creative tools that enable users to generate, edit and share images across WhatsApp, Instagram and Facebook using simple text prompts.
The company announced the rollout as part of its expanding generative AI ecosystem, describing Muse Image as a creative companion that works alongside its existing Muse Spark assistant to help users create high-quality visuals through conversational interactions.
According to Meta, the new AI model allows users to generate original images from scratch or edit existing photos without requiring advanced design skills.
Users can, for instance, ask the AI to place a pet inside a famous painting, remove unwanted objects or people from photographs, create functional QR codes, or design visually appealing infographics with clearly rendered text.
Meta said the tool understands natural language prompts and retains the context of conversations, allowing users to refine images, switch styles, add elements or make further adjustments without restarting the creative process.
The company also announced the introduction of more than 30 AI-powered effects for Instagram Stories, while image generation through Meta AI is being integrated into WhatsApp direct messages in selected countries, with plans to expand availability to additional markets in the coming weeks.
In addition to image creation, Meta said the platform will enable users to redesign rooms by uploading photographs and requesting décor ideas using real products sourced from the web or Facebook Marketplace.
Editing images is designed to be intuitive, with users able to tap a markup tool to circle, sketch or annotate areas requiring changes, after which the AI applies the requested modifications.
The launch forms part of Meta’s broader strategy to integrate generative AI across its family of applications and enhance user creativity through conversational interfaces.
The company also disclosed that Muse Video, an AI-powered video generation model, is currently under development as the next phase of its creative AI roadmap.
The latest rollout follows Meta’s recent introduction of AI-powered search and content creation tools for Facebook through its AI Mode, which delivers context-rich responses by drawing insights from publicly shared content across Facebook Groups, Reels and other platforms.
With Muse Image, Meta aims to simplify digital content creation while providing users with more advanced AI-powered editing and design capabilities across its social media ecosystem.
