The Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH) Teaching Hospital, Ogbomoso, has discharged 31 of the 39 pupils rescued after their abduction in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State.

The hospital’s Chief Medical Director, Prof. Olawale Olakulehin, said the pupils were certified medically fit and have been reunited with their families after receiving medical care.

According to him, the remaining eight children are still undergoing treatment and observation to ensure their complete recovery before they are discharged.

Olakulehin said the discharge of the 31 pupils marks a significant step in the rehabilitation process, assuring that the hospital would continue to provide comprehensive medical care for those still on admission.

He added that medical experts are closely monitoring both the physical and psychological well-being of the rescued children as part of their post-trauma recovery.

The pupils were among those abducted alongside their teachers from schools in Oriire Local Government Area before being rescued by security operatives.

Governor Seyi Makinde formally received the rescued victims on Monday and commended the security agencies and all stakeholders involved in securing their freedom.

The governor, however, called for an independent international investigation into the circumstances surrounding the abduction, saying such a probe would help establish the full facts, strengthen public confidence and ensure accountability.

Makinde stressed that the request for an international investigation was not intended to undermine Nigeria’s institutions but to complement ongoing efforts.

His position has, however, drawn criticism from the Presidency and the Senate, both of which argued that Nigeria, as a sovereign nation, has the capacity to investigate and address the incident through its own institutions.
