Kano to Establish Cottage Industry Hubs to Drive Industrialisation, Job Creation
Kano State Governor, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, has announced plans to establish Cottage Industry and Cottage Enterprise Hubs across strategic locations in the state as part of efforts to accelerate industrialisation, promote local production and create employment opportunities.

The governor disclosed this during an Empowerment Programme for Registered Butchers organised by the Cottage Trade and Street Hawking Agency (CTSHA) at the Government House in Kano.
According to a statement issued on Friday by the Governor’s spokesperson, Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, the project has been captured in the state’s approved 2026 budget and is designed to provide modern production centres for artisans and small-scale entrepreneurs.
Governor Yusuf said the proposed hubs would offer shared workspaces, modern equipment, reliable utilities, storage facilities, business support services, skills development programmes and organised market access to enhance productivity and improve the competitiveness of local businesses.
He said the initiative aligns with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda by encouraging the production and consumption of Made-in-Nigeria goods, while also advancing the Kano First Agenda aimed at strengthening indigenous businesses and expanding the state’s economy.
The governor further revealed that the hubs would feature dedicated sections for butchers, meat processing, leather processing and tannery operations to strengthen Kano’s livestock value chain and attract additional investment into the sector.
According to him, the initiative is expected to reduce production costs, improve product quality, expand market opportunities and create thousands of jobs for young people in meat processing, leather works, packaging, transportation and other related industries.
Governor Yusuf urged beneficiaries of the empowerment programme to make effective use of the government’s support, uphold high standards of hygiene and professionalism, and encourage other eligible traders and artisans to register with the agency to benefit from future interventions.
