Troops Disrupt Terrorist Logistics, Defuse IED, Arrest Two Suspects in Zamfara

Troops of the Joint Task Force North West, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, have disrupted terrorist activities across parts of Zamfara State, recovering military-style equipment, intercepting alleged logistics suppliers and defusing an Improvised Explosive Device planted along a major road.

The operations, conducted on Friday, August 7, 2026, were carried out in separate locations across the state as security forces intensified patrols and intelligence-led operations against terrorist networks.

According to a statement issued on Saturday by the Theatre Command’s Media Information Officer, Lieutenant Colonel Aliyu Danja, troops of Sector 2, working alongside a Police Explosive Ordnance Disposal team, responded to information about a suspected IED near Jabanda village in Zurmi Local Government Area.

The security team located and safely cleared the device before scanning the surrounding road and reopening it to motorists.

While returning from the operation, the troops reportedly encountered terrorists at Birnin Tsaba village in Birnin Magaji Local Government Area.

The troops engaged the terrorists, forcing them to withdraw into the surrounding bush.

A subsequent search of the area led to the recovery of two motorcycles, a camouflage jungle hat, a handheld radio and other items believed to be associated with the fleeing terrorists.

In another operation in Shinkafi Local Government Area, troops of Sector 2, supported by personnel of the Mobile Police Squadron, responded to intelligence concerning terrorist activity around Kwanar Jolof.

The troops engaged the terrorists with superior firepower, compelling them to retreat.

A follow-up search reportedly resulted in the recovery of a motorcycle, two camouflage uniforms, a camouflage vest, a jungle hat and other items.

Meanwhile, troops conducting patrols around Maradun intercepted a suspected terrorist collaborator and logistics supplier identified as 35-year-old Lawali Dan Alo.

According to the military, Dan Alo had claimed that a bag in his possession contained food items. A search of the bag, however, allegedly uncovered ₦5.302 million in cash and a mobile phone.

Preliminary interrogation reportedly indicated that the suspect was allegedly transporting the money on behalf of a terrorist leader to another individual identified as Kasimu Garba.

Garba was subsequently arrested at his residence, with both suspects now in military custody for further investigation.

The Theatre Command said the latest operations demonstrated the troops’ continued efforts to disrupt terrorist movements, logistics and support networks across the North-West.

It commended the troops for their vigilance, courage and prompt response, while assuring residents that aggressive patrols, intelligence-led operations and targeted actions against terrorist networks would continue across the region.

The military also urged members of the public to remain vigilant and provide security agencies with timely and credible information that could assist ongoing operations and contribute to restoring lasting peace in the region.
