NUJ Osun Hails Tinubu, INEC, As Congress Commends Adeleke’s Reelection
The Osun State Council of the Nigerian Union of Journalists has passed a communique commending President Bola Tinubu for his non-interference in the independence of agencies, particularly the Independent National Electoral Commission, during the recently concluded Osun State governorship election.
The union also applauded INEC for conducting a credible poll on Saturday, 15th August 2026, and congratulated Governor Ademola Adeleke on his reelection by the good people of the state.
The congress made these resolutions in a statement issued following its monthly meeting held on Wednesday 19th August 2026 at the Olu Osungbohun Hall, NUJ Press Centre, Osogbo.
The statement was signed by the drafting Committee Chairman, Com. Olalekan Akindoju; Secretary, Com. Oluwamayowa Fagbohungbe; and member, Com. Wasiu Babalola as directed by the Council Chairman Comrade Adeyemi Aboderin.
In the communique, the union praised the electorate for rejecting violence and turning out en masse to participate in the electoral process.
The journalists further enjoined Governor Adeleke to be magnanimous in victory while urging his fellow contestants to join hands with him to develop Osun State.
Com. Olalekan Akindoju led Committee noted that the union also solicited a cordial and robust working relationship between the Adeleke-led government and members of the Fourth Estate of the Realm.
He stressed that such collaboration is vital for transparent governance and the overall progress of the state.
The congress equally commended President Tinubu’s administration on the recent flag-off of the Iwo-Ibadan and Akoda-Sekona-Gbongan Roads.
The union urged the Federal Ministry of Works, led by Engr. Dave Umahi, to leave no stone unturned in ensuring the timely completion and delivery of the projects.
The Communique reiterated the union’s call for unity among political actors, emphasizing that development thrives in an atmosphere of peace and cooperation.
It also reaffirmed the journalists’ commitment to holding leaders accountable while supporting policies that benefit the people.
Finally, the Communique encouraged all stakeholders to sustain the peace witnessed during the election and to prioritize the collective interest of Osun State above partisan considerations.
The Communique noted that the congress concluded with a vote of confidence in the leadership of both INEC and the national body of the NUJ.
