Osun NUJ Chairman Visits Afiju FM, Pledges Support for Journalists’ Welfare and Professional Growth

The Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Osun State Council, Comrade Adeyemi Aboderin, has paid a courtesy visit to Afiju FM Radio in Osogbo, the Osun State capital.

The Chairman was accompanied by some members of the Osun NUJ leadership and other journalists during the visit.

Receiving the NUJ Chairman and his entourage, the General Manager of Afiju FM Radio, Mr. Dayo Oderinu, expressed delight over the visit, noting that the station had been looking forward to receiving the leadership of the union.

Oderinu welcomed Comrade Aboderin and his team to the station and appreciated them for taking the time to visit Afiju FM Radio.

He said the visit provided an opportunity to strengthen the relationship between Afiju FM Radio and the Osun NUJ, while also creating an avenue for the station’s management and staff to interact directly with the leadership of the union.

The General Manager highlighted some of the concerns affecting members of staff, particularly journalists and media practitioners, and appealed to the NUJ Chairman to look into them.

He also called on the Osun NUJ leadership to continue supporting journalists and promoting their welfare, unity and professional development in the state.

Oderinu further explained that Afiju FM Radio was committed to producing programmes that would connect with the people and reflect the language and culture of the community.

He noted that Yoruba is predominantly spoken in many communities across Osun State and suggested that more programmes presented in Yoruba could help attract greater listenership, engagement and public participation.

He said such programmes could make the station more accessible and memorable to listeners, while also helping the station to reach a wider audience across the state.

Some members of staff of Afiju FM Radio also expressed their appreciation to the NUJ Chairman for the visit and presented some requests and concerns for the leadership of the union to consider.

Responding, the Osun NUJ Chairman, Comrade Adeyemi Aboderin, thanked the management and entire staff of Afiju FM Radio for the warm reception.

Aboderin said the visit was part of efforts by the leadership of the union to strengthen its relationship with media organisations across Osun State and listen directly to the concerns of journalists.

He assured the staff that the NUJ would continue to protect the interests of journalists and promote their welfare, professional development and unity.

The Chairman also encouraged journalists to uphold the ethics of the profession, practise responsible journalism and work together to strengthen the media industry in Osun State.

He assured the management and staff of Afiju FM Radio that the concerns raised during the visit would receive the attention of the union.

The visit ended on a positive note, with both sides expressing commitment to maintaining a stronger relationship and collaboration between Afiju FM Radio and the Osun NUJ.
